World fastest street legal car and it's from the UK!

Quote:
Despite its late-model sports cars and a sturdy GT racing heritage, GM’s Vauxhall division isn’t known for the “world’s fastest” anything. Then again, jamming an 11.5-liter big-block Chevrolet V8 into a car’s engine compartment has a way of changing brand perceptions. This 1993 Vauxhall Calibra, equivalent to the Chevy Cavalier, recently returned to the UK after a trip to the States, during which it generated lots of smoke and brused American egos. Doing zero to sixty in 1.25 seconds, after driving to the track on public highways, tends to get that kind of response. [Thanks to Stephen for the tip.]

If they can make a Cavalier go that fast why can't they make Defenders faster

Because a Defender would look awful funny with fatties on the back and skinnies up front.

Pretty silly from the UK.
I used to drive a Vauxhall SR5, sort of a version of the VW GTI but slightly bigger.
Drove like slick shit. Forget that drag racing crap, try rally sport for real car driving. I was a sales rep in the mid-lands and it flew. English country lanes were sooo much fun in that car. Now of course, this was WAY back in 1989, and with GM owning them, the SR5 was probably a model that was killed off.

A car that ugly has to be that fast, so no one can get a good look at it.

This car is really road legal? Hard to believe.... and this Opel / Vauxhall Calibra is ugly.

The fastest "normal" car is still the Mercedes Brabus EV12 (It's in the Guinness Book of records...). It has a 7.3 litre V12 engine with 585hp and 780nm torque.
0-60 in 4.2 seconds, Vmax 350 km/h!!!!!

And it looks like a standard Mercedes e-class....

Mike.

Hmm, I thought that went to the mclaren F1 GTR? 0-60 in 3.1 6.1 liter V12 627 hp top speed around 230 mph.

http://www.bmwworld.com/models/mclaren.htm

The stock Mclaren is even faster then the Brabus EV12, with 621 hp and 0-60 in 3.8 sec

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/SLR.jsp

But they are both Mercedes And no way I'll ever be able to drive one! $$$$$$$$$

The money is always the problem.....

But this Mercedes is a 4door family car...
There was only a small series of these 7.3 V12s available.

Another fast car:

http://www.georg-plasa.de/auto.htm

It's a BMW 320 with a Judd KV 675 engine. http://www.engdev.com/kv675_specification.htm

3,378 liter V8 engine, 550hp at 10200 revs. only 895 kilo! Vmax ~340 kmh /210 mph

Yeah, Hans Joachim Stuck and Walter Roehrl are two of the best german racers.
Remember Pikes Peak in the 80s? Audi quattro?

But this Judd 3 is even more powerful/lighter (-200kg) than the M3 GTR. And he races it on normal streets. Not on Race Tracks.

Listen to that sound file. LOUD!!!! I hope it won't blow your speakers...Just listen to the flyby near the end of the clip (~01:50...)

This is an old racecar with a supercharged V16 pushing nearly 500 hp.

It's only a matter of time before the D90's get super HP. The DII's are already on their way....
