Yeah, but Costa Rica is not in this group. Ghana has owned the US in the past. Then they have Germany (who I think will take the whole thing, as much as it pains me to say it) and Portugal. Ronaldo says he is healthy but the witch doctor says he is hurt and takes the credit. We will see. If he is hurt, I do not think they will go far. Germany is the complete team right now.

England was sad. Rooney was ALL over the place and perpetually in the wrong spot. They should have taken that game. They were not really outplayed. They just need to realize the Rooney is not their man anymore and put him where he belongs.

The US Team won against Spain 2-0 in the 2009 Confederations Cup semifinal.

This was when Spain was in the top of their game (2008 to 2012)

I don't see why they get concerned over this group. The only team that worries me is Germany... The rest... Meh!

Rooney is way overrated by himself and the English media. Watch for him to get sold if Man U can.

I don't see England escaping from the group stage.

4 years ago and many roster changes, not to mention a different coach. Cannot really use that as a point of reference anymore.

There is no denying that they have an extremely difficult group. Germany has a young team of very good players and are not dependent upon one big name. Not only that, they have many years of playing together as a unit. Portugal all depends upon Ronaldo. I personally cannot stand him but when he is on, he is on. Then there is Ghana that seems to beat them in every important match they go in to.

Spain was great 4 years ago but no more ...think their best time is over ....

See REUTERS news bulletin :

Chastened Spain coach Vicente del Bosque faces some serious soul-searching after his team of champions were brutally exposed and destroyed 5-1 by Netherlands in a shocking World Cup Group B loss on Friday.

Spain's humiliating defeat in Salvador in their opening game, by far the heaviest under Del Bosque since he took over in 2008, was their biggest at a World Cup since they lost 6-1 to Brazil in 1950 and only their fourth competitive loss under the affable 63-year-old.
Although the match started well for the holders and they led 1-0 through Xabi Alonso's penalty, they were ripped to shreds by the rampant Dutch in the second half.

What is being said about Germany is agreeable. I like them more as a team other teams are just individual players trying to score and make a name for themselves,I feel. One of my top 3 picks is Germany for that reason. UUSS forget about them. Although they have shown some improvement I will be surprised to see them in finals. I feel Spain ha come and gone they are a good team but don't show up to that last game but as my dad says it anyteam as of right now we Will see as games come and go.

The US needed something lucky. THIS is that. Portugal just lost their other key player.

Portugal came to the stadium but look more like tourists than players.

La Peninsula Iberica has sucked so far.

1-5 to Spain and a 4-0 to Portugal

First game performance for the "best" teams rarely match later in the Tournament performance.

Sunday V Portugal. The latter will be out for revenge after getting pasted.
Altodore probably done for Tourney. Several anxious days for others.

They have some huge holes. Too many touches in the 18 when there should have been some shots. There were at least 2 goals in there if they had picked their heads up and seen the shot. Their defense is okay but no where near strong enough to score an early goal and then sit back and 'park the bus' in front of the goal. That, and they were outpaced the entire game. The fitness seems not to be there.

Altidore is no loss. He really is not that good to be honest. He is a sub on Sunderland, which is not a really good team.

Losing Pepe is a good thing for the US.

Agreed. The Sunderland Manager Gus Poyet was at my home town a couple of seasons ago. Did a phenomenal job there. Think Sunderland will likely surprise other teams next season. Too many EPL teams lack ambition to be top. Gus brings ambition.

Brazil vs Mexico has been the best game I've seen in a while.
