This is what a $40K paint job looks like

And in the background of this picture is what a $1 million plus paint job looks like ....

But the one in front of the 1 million dollar paint job is actually useful.

I drive the one in the front. I'm a Manufacturing Engineer in the Finishes Department - and we're a little touchy on the "usefulness" of the sneaky one in the back. Those of us who have spent the last twenty years working on the F-22 and who have talked to the guys who fly these things have very strong opinions on what we consider to be one of the finest flying machines ever built.

But then I also help build C-130's - sort of the Land Rover of the sky.

Okay maybe showing my cards- but I fly C-130 E/H1/H2/H2.5/H3/AMP...
So you know where my heart is. The C-130 is the most useful aircraft LM has made.

You won't get any argument from me on that one - the C-130 has fed me for 56 years - I'm a second generation Lockheed employee. I unfailingly tell anyone who asks what my favorite airplane is that the C-130 is it.

The SR-71, F-22 and P-38 Lightning run pretty close behind the Herk though.

Have you flown a C130-J yet? One of my buddies who does test flights says they really get off the ground in a big hurry with the more powerful engines and six bladed props.

1969 we bought planning to work on ay school, but decided to have it prof painted, and the engine installed by Hans a Benz expert who's shop happens to be a few miles away.
It is now dark olive with tan interior. The guy did an amazing job on the paint and body work.
We got it cheap as it was in boxes, and in a million pieces, but it was a bit more than expected, and the costs have really added up .
Plus the 110 build has really been distracting me.

Don't feel too bad - I know a guy who spent over $85 K restoring a 190SL - beautiful car but he's in way more than its worth right now....

The color is original, it just looks a lot lot more glossy then the ones I've seen. It looks olive drab in the pics, it looks a lot different in person.
