Winter spot in the US ?

Where should I go for some snow, great outdoors, wildlife and eventually some winter sports ? I'd prefer to avoid the typical touristic spots. End of november or december.

Thanks

Cheers

Yellowstone is generally quiet during the winter and beautiful. Then head over to Jackson Hole for some skiing.

I believe Jersey is the place that has the wild animals, at least on or around the shore.

Telluride, Wyoming or hit Moab in Utah for some wheeling, pretty empty of people around that time then head to Wasatch range for some early ski......

x2 for Crested Butte. Pretty much the last unspoiled mountain town in Colorado.

Anything good is going to be a "tourist spot."

Fly into Salt Lake.
Hit Arches National Park.
Then drive to Park City/Snowbird/Solitude (about 6-7 ski areas within 45 mintues of Salt Lake.)

You would then be a 7 hour drive to Yellowstone.

A lot of good advices, thanks. I was in Montreal last winter, a little too cold for a caribbean fella like me (- 20 C some days) but Canada felt great. Colorado sounds appealing, what about Montana ?
