To me, that's the perfect setup. You can unmount it to attach it to the rear! That's (very roughly) how my D90 is setup.
In theory, this also allows me to unmount the winch when I'm not planning to go offroad too. In practice.... I always want to go offroad!

Looks like a 3000lb winch in a 2" removable receiver cradle.
