Wife now officially hates the Defender...

I've got no one to whine to about this so this is my self pitty bitch...

For those keeping track at home I've now owned my defender for a month and a half and have been able to drive it for right around two weeks...

and now the turbo just blew on me... good times let me tell ya...

Thank <insert favorite deity here> for RDS who had an almost new take out for about 1/3 the cost RN wants (not that I would have bought it from RN anyway but still)

I think the wife is going to kick me out of the house and make me sleep in it....

How many miles on the engine? Hey while you're at it...you should get the turbo Jet-Hot coated! ;-) What symptoms did you have to confirm the failure? Besides the obvious (drives like crap)...

It will still be worth it... We've all been there. My wife did the same things, but I finally bought her one and now she won't part with it.

Just remember... wives can come and go

Just remember... wives can come and go but your Defender is with you forever. That is, of course if you pre-nupt'd it out of the negociations. You did pre-nupt's right?

60k miles on engine

symptoms of blown turbo? oh yea... sudden loss of power, white smoke, a "rattle" coming right from the turbo and taking off the air inlet and sticking your hand inside the turbo you can tell pretty quick... yea, the shaft is done...

right now getting it back on the road is top priority, I've got to get this bloody thing to pass emmissions in short order and down time is adding to the wifes amunition....

You need to work on the positioning to get her in your corner. Let her wheel it once or twice, or ensure she is with you at some opportune time when someone compliments you both on the d-90.

My wife waited patiently in the truck last summer while I squirmed under the hood to replace a broken accelerator cable at the side of the road during a road trip to visit her family.

She was reading US magazine.

Sucks on the turbo but it does happen. Has the cam belt been serviced recently?

related?? One of the things that kept it off the road was the belt was replaced not too long ago but they didn't tighten it down so it started shifting back and forth (that was great times too).

It doesn't currently have an EGT gauge in it but that was on my list of improvements I'd like to make. Nothing has been tweaked on the engine since installed by Pendy though so I wasn't going to do it until summer when working on trucks is a lot more fun...

Woo, get yourself an EGT. just assumed you had one for some reason. The CO hills/mountains are not kind on the EGT's. Holding a gear for too long on a steep hill will skyrocket those temps.

Sell it to me (wife or D90, would need pics of either before purchasing).

that sounds like just reason to maybe invest in a roof rack and rooftop tent.
