Why do people do this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-D...#ht_134wt_1124

I stopped reading when I got to the point where they say they resprayed it becasue it was sun faded. I'd rather have an original; no matter what condition. Anyone can sand and paint.

I love the fact they didn't remove the door hinge bolts on the real before painting ... I'll pass

This truck was for sale on ebay here for years with the location being Italy-asking price for the all original was around $50k. I'm not surprised in the least what Andrew Harrison Smith has done to the truck, being who he is, and given that no else stepped up to buy the all original patina. The opportunity to save this truck was cheap and it was on the market for a very long time. It was discussed here.

at the end of the day they've erased something that can never be replaced and given who did it, imo, it is on the level of being disrespectful to the brand and its heritage. it either screams disrespect or desperation.

Clowns. And look - $140,000 starting bid will not meet reserve. But the BIN price of $1 more will push you over the top.

Makes me want to bid the $140k just for s&g's.

The line that comes to mind is one that applies to antiques regularly. You can restore it a dozen times, its only original once.

surprised they didn't paint the cappings

Same year as the one I have... Looks in good shape though.
The side turn indicator is not original.
And I believe the Camel Trophy plaque in the rear is not mounted in the correct position(I will have to check the pictures I received from the driver from my Camel)

[QUOTE=belgian;527771]I try, but its hard not to... I still want a 200tdi in it.

I used to say the same thing about my 110 2.5 normal. Convinced myself recently difference is only when traveling for long periods on the highway. Not worth $8 grand plus erasing history. I take the small roads, enjoy the views and no longer beat myself up about it.

Good point. No reason to create this a highway vehicle.. I have my daily driver and range rover classic for that.

Thanks Clay!
