Whose your Daddy? Ford Explorer boffed a LR

So, I am reading the September issue of Land Rover Monthly and pg 135 is the Rangie. Then I am reading the September 17th Newsweek and on page 42 is an article on the Ford Motor Company and the new CEO. (guess what room of the house I was in?) In the back ground is a, well I had to look really close. Looks like a Ford Explorer got friendly with a Range Rover and those parents got lucky - the offspring did not have 6 wheels.

The Ford emblem in the grill told me it was a Ford, but the wheel arch flares are RR, the grill is a close match, lights to hard to tell.

In the end, I kind of look at it and go, a not so pretty RR, hard to see the Explorer in it (a good thing) but...

Anyone seen pix of the next generation Explorer and is Ford taking design ques from LR/RR?

Paul, is this what you're referring to? Ford Flex with the two-tone top?

I would say that it is a bad homage to the RR, kind of like Kia does to Mercedes. The roof pillars, the top line the shape of the lights and front quarter panels were "inspired" by the RR for sure.

Like most knock-offs...It's ugly!

even the interior looks similar to the RRS, they'll do the same as BMW did......take the good stuff, build their own and then drop us.....this thing also has the RR hood....wonder if my lot on www.landrovernet.com have seen this..

Ok, having just looked at that abomination, I would say 2 things: 1) it is definitely RR influenced and 2) they are gonna love it N' the Hood! It's "Gangsta" with a LATCH system

And I thought I hated the Dodge Magnum....

Sweet Jesus, it is a Ford Flex. Good find Ade, but ...well everyone else seems to agree. Its like part RR, part Scion, part Magnum part mutation.

Honestly though, who the hell researches this stuff? How do the designers get to the point of actually taking it from real size clay mock ups to product. Can no one at Ford say "Dude, we f@#ked up here."

Now I know what Conrad Hilton must be saying when he looks down and sees Paris.
" That came from the loins of my clan!?" Not a fair comparision 'cause at least Paris makes money where as Ford bled out $12.7 billion in 2006.

Their Euro line is much better, the '08 Mondeo for example. Don't understand why they don't make cars like that here.

I saw a Volvo ad last night, Ford has given Hill Descent Control to Volvo now. Isn't it nice, everybody benefits except Land Rover.

It's like being in a comma, outside and naked in a mosquito infested swamp.

Being in a comma is much worse than being in a coma. In a comma, you get stuffed into a really small dot, with only your privates hanging down n out. Usually you're stuck in the wrong place, at the wrong time and totally misunderstood. In a coma, you don't give hoot about anything.
