Who was the pilot this past weekend...

Ok.. I dont know how much I can say without possibly getting someone in trouble, but who was the pilot who treated us to the "special fly-by" our Rover group late Saturday afternoon out on the sand plains just outside Salton City Ca.? A little birdy told me it was someone from this site.

If you are the pilot and dont wish to post, please send me a PM. It was awesome!

Were you at Superstition or truckhaven?? I can't believe you were in my back yard and didn't call me! I don't mean to burst your bubble, but there is an airforce base right next to that area where the blue angels train. During the superstition mountain run the f-18's practice mock caravan anti insurgence drops on the trail convoys. It is awesome to see them 20 feet over your head and then tear toward the sky after the fake "drop". But, they do it to whatever caravan they find, Jeeps and all.

TBF Avengers? as in the WWII bomber?

Dave is right, there are two bases nearby where you were, and a bombing area just about 20 miles north of those sand dunes, if I understand correctly where you were. Harriers fly out of Yuma AZ, and often Hornets fly out of El Centro. Of course, I'm sure you didn't see any of the aircraft flying any lower than 1000 ft over your heads. Any lower and that would be illegal (but a helluva lot of fun). Fun too flying on dark nights using NVGs with your lights off, screaming over the top of complacent campers then suddenly flashing your lights on and off, and inspiring rumors of UFOs attacking the Imperial Valley.

Oops... I guess Intruders, not Avengers were going back and forth through out the day.

As for the distance over our heads... well.. I am not saying anymore. I would not want someone to possibly get into trouble for my possible miscalulation of footage distance of a possible incorrect identifaction.
