Where do you buy MIG weld gas in NOVA

I know this forum has quite a few NOVA members and I need some local help. I am out of gas for my MIG welder and I need to buy some more. The last cylinder I bought was from Roberts Oxygen and it cost a bloody fortune.

Where do hobbyists normally buy welding gas (inert Argon mix) and how much should it cost?

I get mine at, you guessed it, Roberts Oxygen - in Springfield, VA. I think I paid around $50 for a 3ft tall cylinder trade.

David, there is a Roberts oxygen on 606. Are you sure the high price wasn't because you bought the tank too? When you get a refill, they just swap tanks and its should cost a lot less.

Got Gas?

OK - sounds like Roberts is the best option for me. I was swapping cylinders last time - and I think it cost nearly $75. I will call tomorrow and check. Someone told me that I should be spending in the neigborhood of $15 - but it sounds like that is bad info.

I just finished a marathon welding project on getting my rear cross member replaced in a race to finish repairs before the MAR.

Now, I stumbled onto a used utility trailer that tilts for $45. the only problem is the tilt portion is buggered up and I need to weld a new section of steel in to hold a pin. About half way into welding the four sides of the plate - I ran out of gas. Typical.

If you don't anticipate needing welding gas for much else, and you can tow the trailer over to South Riding, I'd be glad to let you use my welder (and even lend a hand). It would save you buying gas unnecessarily. I guess you could borrow my tank as well if need be.

I'm guessing the price is going to be closer to $75 than $15. Gotta love NOVA.

p.s I'd love to hear about the rear cross member welding as I need to do this on my 110. Did yours have extensions?

$15 sounds more like what i pay for CO2 from Roberts.

I may not have done it "right" - but at least it is done. I am learning as I go.

Gas

I have discovered that Tractor Supply in Leesburg sells shielding gas at $27 per cylinder on exchange. If you do not have one of thier cylinders then it is an additional $19 fee.

Also - there is PRAXAIR in Mannassas that supposedly sells tanks in the $25 range. Tractor supply is closer and not worth the gas in the car to drive to Mannasasasasa for me.

That's the price if you bring a non-tractor-supply cylinder, right?

Last time I checked cylinders were in the $80-100 range (can't remember where that was). At < $40, I'd buy one, of course.... I'd have to see what size cylinder we are talking about!
