What's the best dog's name

I'm getting a new dog, finally. Another Chessie. He's a 1 1/2 year old Rescue dog, and he needs a new name, fitting for his legacy. "Max" just isn't cool enough.

Give me some ideas? What are the coolest names you've ever heard for a dog?

We've got a Beagle named "Lex Luthor"... so you can't use that one. We're thinking of naming the next one Batman, not kidding either.

Live with the dog for a while--its name will become obvious.

Back in the mid '70's I saw a Gray's Sporting Journal for the first time. There was a great short story in it with a Chessie as one of the main characters. His name was "Cutter". That one has always stuck with me.

Cutter is appropriate for a Chessie.
...Or Skip, as in Skipjack
...Or Boom as in Boomkin/Boomvang
...Tiller

I don't think this will help your particular situation, but I always liked names that worked into some kind of symbolism or fitted the owner/dog and their lifestyle the best. Example is a friend that owns and operated an excavation company. He has a bulldog named "Dozer". We named our female Rottie "Hera". Those familiar with Greek mythology will recognize the name as the "queen of the gods", or Zeusís husband. I met a Rottie named Zeus years ago and thought it fitting...

would be appropriate for a LR dog.

I have a Boston Terrier on the way and as long as the bitch has a male he will be mine and named Bean.

"Jack"

I named my new rat terrier puppy "Jack". - I can say things like "What's up Jack" or "Hi Jack" and use short word commands to train him like "car Jack" (to jump in the truck) or "Jack off" - when I want him to jump off of something he shouldn't be on. Best of all when some one tells me "I don't know Jack" - I just point to my dog - Jack

Yes I am mildly warped -- Jack's middle name is Ass

So when someone refers to that "jack ass bruffett" how will you know who they are talking about?
