That would be determined with a follow up question... "the one in the drivers seat or the one riding shotgun"?!

for a Chessie, if it's anything like my mine (a 110# licking machine) I'd say Chocolate Moose. My Chessie is named Mac as in Mack Truck.

Something course and only has three letters like Bob, Joe, etc. If a female then a good 50's era name will do. Ruth or Jane.

Simplicity is the way to go unless the animal has displayed some unusual characterisitic.

And for god-sakes don't name your dog either rover or cody. Ugh.

LOL, I wasn't going to say anything, but my 9 year old named his grandmother's half maltese / half shitzu Diesel, sigh. But the dog is a scapper, LOL

All great ideas. Zeus, Spot, Cutter, Traveler, Boudreaux, Diesel, Lex, Moose, Stiffler, Drippy and Hummer.

Chris definitely had the best suggestion, to watch him and "the name will come to you".

Picking him up this weekend and maybe it will "come to me". I'll send you some pics.

Ken, bottom line - IMHO, of course:

Good call on going with a rescue organization instead of buying a puppy. We found the Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League entirely by accident - no more puppies for us.

Good luck with the new addition.

I have been lucky enough to enjoy the companionship of a handful of fine dogs in my life, but have only put a name to one-and it didn't belong to me.
A very good friend had just added his most recent, in a long line of Basset Hounds, to his family. He made the mistake of allowing his son who was not "a dog person" to name it. The poor dog was saddled with "Theopolis", after someone the son admired. The name didn't fit the dog and it didn't fit in your mouth very well when you were calling a dog either. The pup was a big robust male, big hearted with an open, friendly disposition. I took to calling him "Hoss" after Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza. The name fit him so well even the one who named him eventually started calling him Hoss...... and Hoss he was for the rest of his days.

So, Ken, I have a new entry in the contest if it turns out your Chessie exhibits the same fine personality characteristics of the "Hoss" I was lucky enough to know.

Well, he's not a Hoss or a Theopolis (thank goodness).

He's one helluva dog though! It's painful to think that there are such selfish people who would go to the trouble to buy a purebreed Chessie, apparently not knowing the breed, and then not be happy with him and just take him to the animal shelter to be disposed of. Fortunately, they have such an active Chessie Rescue organization here to find good homes for these pooches.

Their mistake is certainly my gain. He's a keeper! He has some learning to do, though, like jumping into the truck. He also needs some dog-manners before he's ready to head to the trail and play with the other pooches.

Good dog, but certainly not a "Max"

When I had a smaller boat, I had trouble trimming it out..(leaned left or right with a small amount of weight shift)
I swore I would name my next dog----Ballast.
I'd teach him to move port/starboard on command.

I'd love to be able to shout.........Ballast starboard, dog would run to the side and trim the boat out.......
But a bigger but solved the problem first

I've got a neighbor with a Cooper - Choc Lab.

Cooper's popular around here.

Other neighbors named their new pup Clay (short for Claiborne, a local point of historic interest).

Chester, Miles, both good Chessie names. Kent Fort Manor was the first English Settlement in Maryland 1639... Kent could be a good name.

I had a friend that had a Chessie name Brownie. I think they are pretty nice dogs.
