What would you do D110 for RR TD6?

Ok, here is a topic for some "chit chat". You have just paid the last installment on the newly restored D110. The Land Rover dealer offers you a trade; D110 for a 2016 RR TD6 fully loaded, pretty much even up.

What do you do and why?

The Defender isn't going to depreciate like the Range Rover will, but other than that, the Range Rover is better in pretty much all aspects.

Joe - you will never maintain the $$$Value you have in the D110 in that RR. A $100,000 Range Rover is only worth $35K 4 years after ownership. I know, I just bought one.

Your D110 ... You just spent all that heartache on getting it sorted, now you are happy with it. Drive it - get the smiles and waves you wanted to get on the island, drive it in that parade - you will not be disappointed.

You should keep the Defender and swap in a better powertrain.

Defender. No question about it.
Easy to work on yourself versus a RR that will need to go to the stealer to work on.

The RR has one of the largest depreciations of any modern vehicle in terms of absolute dollars lost. Compare it to a g550 and look at resale values. The RR are incredibly nice but they tank like none other.

Sell the d110 for what you have in it. Buy a 2012 RR with factory certified warranty for 4 additional years. Pocket $$$.

Land Rover sold the 2.25 Diesel in the Series Land Rovers here. So no that is not the first diesel Land Rover sold here.

I know you are correct, however I have had very good resale on two prior RRs. One I bought when it came off the lease.

New Range Rover has currently one of the highest resale values.

Will you be making money selling the 110 or breaking even?

If he sold it outright to the dealer he would make money - probably enough to pay 90% cash for a 2011/12 Range Rover out of his profit....then he could bank what he paid for the D110

But then he wouldn't have a Defender.

His signature line shows a D90 as well. Do what you want and don't worry about the value of the thing. To realize and pocket the value of the 110 you have to sell it anyway. Enjoy whichever you have.

But the difference is that the RR won't need to be worked on constantly and and work will be covered by the factory warranty with the exception of maintenance.

The new body style Range Rover holds its value way better than the L322.

That defender won't hold its value in five years.

Supply and demand. The more JLR sells the more they make. The more they make the greater the depreciation over time. Rare anything has a better chance of retaining value over mass produced anything.
Didn't LR dealers offer even swaps for NAS 110's for the newly introduced Discovery back in the day?

I would stand to make a little.

Interestingly, while chatting with Jeremy from Arkonik I was led to believe that he was a little put out by some folks buying Arkonik trucks, then selling them state side for a profit. He mentioned that they were "piggy backing" on their work.

I tell you this for what it is worth. I should think that profit is profit no matter what the buyer does with the truck later.
But, what do I know?
