What ever happened to the US Army Rovers?

Used to see them in Benning years ago, Stephen had one of the frames down in Orlando, my nephew who is a Ranger said they got rid of them because no one could drive a stick and they kept burning up the clutches...wonder where they all went? How many did they have?

Hi, Winn.

If you look in the 'Defender Sightings' thread, a while ago I posted a few photos of ones I saw last spring in various places while doing training. I saw a few at Ft Bragg being used by some of the same sort you mentioned, and also saw a few being used as targets on a weapons range in FL. I expect that some of the trucks you're aksing about may be accounted for in one or both locations.

We had two 2004 110's at the dealership that the US army owned for training.

My First Sergeant used RSOVs at 3/75 Ranger here on Benning a long time ago when he was a Weapons Squad Leader. Said they kept burning clutches... ha ha. Think they prefer Strykers now! That reminds me, I should check the DRMO yards tomorrow...

Back in the 90s when NASs were available new, I understand that the West Coast SEAL teams got authorization to buy a bunch from dealers for their use, as Hummers are too big to be useful in many of the places they were going, in particular in urban areas with narrow streets. (Most of Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.)

I saw a few NASs kicking around at NAB Coronado and the surrounding area back when I was stationed there in the early 2000s, and was told that most of them were then bought by team guys from DRMO for pretty cheap when the teams got done with them. I was never able to confirm it myself, but wouldn't be surprised.

Go check out the Range Control office on the back 40 at Fort Campbell. There are a couple there that I believe are still in working order.
