I read the ebay ad.
Having a L322 automatic transmission is nothing to brag about. Seller states that the transmission needs to be reprogrammed and describes vibration. That vibration (like you're driving on corduroy) is the first sign of a failing TC in that transmission.
Maybe mating that transmission to a TDCi wasn't the best idea?

It certainly looks comfortable and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want that engine and comfy Puma interior. And okay, I'll be the first to ask....even thought it's probably a rhetorical question. how the fuck does this truck get through CBP in 2014? Did BLR issue some VIN plaque and some BS paperwork? They are too reputable for that, right?

Based on the seller's statements in the ebay text.
He's says it was imported in early 2014.
This of course could be BS, but that's how it read in the ad.
Either way, even if I had the $$$$ to burn, I wouldn't go near this.
Seller spends $140,000, goes through what I can only imagine to be stressful and fraudulent means to get that truck stateside (supposedly), only to put 5,000 miles on it then decides to sell it ?
Yeah, this sound like something you'd want to thoroughly vet out, or run away like a scalded monkey!

My understanding that Berkshire was shipping parts over and having trucks built by two old guys in Florida. The ad says delivered in 2014 and titled as a replica. My understanding is they were getting Florida kit car titles or something along those lines in an effort to get around CBP DOT and EPA.
Saying its legal is a bit of a streatch

since this isn't a for sale thread and this truck is clearly sketchy, I won't feel bad pointing out that somewhere (Doug probably knows exactly what chapter and verse) in the NHTSA bible it specifically states (and I'm paraphrasing) that a vehicle made from an auto manufacturer's parts does not constitute a "kit" car.
What I'm saying is that Doug is probably being kind by saying "its a stretch". It shouldn't have a home-built or kit car title end of story.
If this type of shit were legit, I'd have done this years ago! its not legit, there's no loophole.

You'd be better off buying one of the sketchy 2010-2012 Pumas floating around this country with a 1972 Series or Range Rover title. At least then it wouldn't have been subject to BLR's grimey little hands!

Look at the Ebay ad…it has Oklahoma plates on it…that should be the poster child for VIN swapped trucks

So, not to be all negative and douchy all the time, I'll say that I do like the way they've mated the L322 center console with the Puma dash. It looks factory.

I'm thinking that if I spent $140000 on this truck, I would expect the transmission to be working properly. Could you imagine spending that level of cash without a warranty?

For that kind of scratch I'd have a British associate buy a puma; import it with temp tags, and drive it stateside.

I mean transmission vibration? Really?

indeed, but then you wouldn't get all the BLR cache (and headaches).

You bring up a good point. if you want to roll around in a Puma so badly, just have somebody import one under temporary status, drive it for 6-months or whatever the allowed time window is, ship it back and repeat with another truck. It's got be less expensive than a $140,000 bitsa truck with a failing torque converter.
There's probably holes in this method too, but at least you're not stuck with a BLR truck with swapped VINS.
