2 things:

- I've always been curious if those guys actually sold a Defender.
- love your avatar. Never got to see them play but one of the first albums (actually tape) I ever bought was their Live '84 when I was 14. I was forever changed

Totally unclear if they ever sold anything beyond marketing/PR hype. Now they're apparently not answering customer emails. Poor WCD.

Yeah, I never saw BF live, but the mixtapes of them and Bad Religion in the early 1980s totally steered my music tastes for the next 30 years. I ran into Rollins at the Smoke House in Burbank last year and didn't say hi, but that was after a funeral so I wasn't in a super mood. Wish I had now.

I've also run into Ian Mackaye so much around D.C. during the last 30 years that he has a flash of recognition whenever we see each other. I wear that as a badge of honor.

Funny how Briggs just posted a pic of Perlman in the other thread. Hype is right!

And that is very neat about seeing Rollins but he seems so intense (almost said "wound up", haha) that I don't think I would say hi on my best day!

The fact that you see Ian Mackaye and recognize each other is pretty damn awesome. Minor Threat lyrics got me thru high school. Drank some in college but not much if any now. Crazy how their songs still influence me. I am always glad that I got to experience that time in music as it will never be replicated IMO.

Oh yeah - Rollins looked wound up just like you're saying. My older brother turned to me and said "you should ask him to punch you in the face." That would have been so perfect.

Besides Ian, my only other claim to fame is that Dave Grohl and I went to same HS and we bowled at the local Bowl America a bunch after Nirvana fell apart. That, and I used to put Mark Hoppus in trash cans during my senior year (same high school, again). As you can see, being punk rock got me nowhere.

DC had a decent punk scene back in the day. I worked in a lab with a Meatmen drummer the summer before my freshman year. Surprisingly a normal dude.

first time i heard black flag was on the repo man soundtrack. i was hooked. got hooked on suicidal tendencies, burning sensations, and fear also from the same album. wish i saw them live too. but that soundtrack and their albums got me through high school.

funny, i worked with the mother from one of the guys from megadeth. she would always say that he constantly complained about keeping up an image of partying and hard rockin. but was focused on two things: the music and getting a masters degree.

It was a lift size Corgi car for some pretentious rich kid, right.
Well, they drove up to me and yelled what pretentious rich kids usually yell - "Hey Frat Boy!"

Yep, riding around with my buddies in my 1970 pastel green IIa blasting Holiday in Cambodia by the DK and Peaches by the Stranglers on some crappy stereo in the truck. What little dick heads we were!

haha - I didn't have the balls to wear a Nazi Punks F Off T. I had the Holiday In Cambodia with the Holiday Inn logo.

I don't know Perlman but I knew his GF.

She died of a heart attack in her 30's last year. She was a PR operation and came from a family with some serious high end cars. Think pre-war French collectibles.

I guess he's moved on....

I thought they were out of business as their web site no longer works. Since the article has today's date I guess they are still going. They don't need no stinkin web site I guess.

Rest Easy my friends...

..."Perlman said his five scouts only buy 20 percent of the Defenders they look at, because WCD is finicky about sourcing a rest-free, quality chassis.."

Phakts are Phun.... "For 42 years the Wilks' creation went only by the name "Land Rover" followed by 90 or 100, denoting the wheelbase in inches. The company coined the Defender moniker in 1990 to differentiate it from the Discovery".

.... Easily mistaken.
