Well, I just wasted 2 hours trying to cheer myself up

After the hefty prices paid for a new cam/lifters and timing chain, I got bored and did a bit of self-therapy.

I typed up a couple letters to Edelbrock and Federal Mogul (Fel-Pro, sealed power, etc...) to ask them why they don't support our engine at all. Probably a useless waste of time, but it makes me feel better. If I'm still grumpy tomorrow morning, maybe I'll add Crane, ARP , Summit and Mr. Gasket to the list. Any others you guys would suggest?

I mean, If I can still get NEW cams, heads and gaskets in the aftermarket for Flathead Ford.... you would think an engine that still has a few hundred thousand on the road would at least have 1 aftermarket gasket kit available.

Well, at least I was able to get the ARP head stud set..... so that does give me a spark of hope.

Summit Racing actually, they have it on the website but not the catalog.
ARP part number is 124-4003 and they ran $115.00 + shipping.

I'll let you know next week how well they worked out.

Hans,

Problem is the US market size. With only 1500-2000 units times 3 years of sales (1994-1997), it is too small. However, in the EU, it is another thing. I had a great time chatting with a couple of carabineri (Italian cops, well at least one division of the cops) this summer. They were driving a blue defender. I got lost - they helped me out and let me buy them a coffee. Both had purchased retired wheels from the state (again something I did not know you could do there) and were mod.ing them out. No shortage of engine, body pieces. We suffer.
Oh, and I am totally on your side with this but just wait. Ford owns LR so parts should be easier to come by NOT.

See, that's just the thing I don't understand. Sure, there may not be many defenders out there, especially in the US. BUT there are dumploads of Discoveries, Range Rovers, Defenders, TVR's, Morgans and other cars that all have the 3.9 V8 in them. You would think there would at least be a Fel-Pro gasket set, or TRW timing chain.

I can deal with the lack of aftermarket performance stuff, as long as there was a good supply of QUALITY aftermarket repair parts.

Isn't the 3.9 the same engine as was in an older Buick? Couldn't we just reference those vehicles when buying some of the engine parts?

I wonder how much of that old Buick stuff is compatible with the Rover V8?

I wonder how much work he has done with the Rover?

Hans!
Much of the old Buick 215 stuff is compatible with a 3.5-4.6.. I can do the mod on the front of the cam for the retainer (rather than use a button) Use Rhoades lifters for a 215 Buick (same as Small block Chevy I think) and a Crower cam lower down on the performance scale.. Norman should have the number.. Or Chris.... Or Nathan... Or James. I've done the cam this for these truck.. It is the best thing you can do for your motor!

Gimme a call... You know where I am
