Warranty

Is it possible to still get an extended warranty on a Defender? I have seen a few nice trucks pop up at dealers lately and was wondering if it was possible to get a warranty like the ones they offer on newer cars.

Matt, do you have someone in mind to service your truck? They may be able to advise on a warranty provider that they have had good experience.

Where can I get a new defender legally?

I am looking at this http://nashville.craigslist.org/ctd/2338517308.html

Just wondering the benefits to buying at a dealer and if I do if a warranty is possible. I guess I can ask them.

I am not sure on service yet. I figure getting a truck might be a good start. I was going to ask here.

FWIW, that seems like a lot of cash for what I would consider to be a slightly above average truck at best...also, depending on your intentions and any modifications you may make to the truck, I would expect that would void most warranties quickly. What items are you worried about that you are hoping a warranty would pick up?

check your pm. might be selling my 90.

you really need to do your research on those aftermarket warranties. theres like 2 or 3 companies that most dealers will use. the price on them is negotiable, but i would expect that for a 94/95/97 d90 with decent miles that price and corresponding deductible might cost more than its worth.

easy now. Im not sure I am, but I am leaning that way. It was a great deal, and its awesome, but I have too much other stuff going on and could put the cash to better use elsewhere. Gotta get my priorities straight. To list a few....will probably be engaged in a few months, followed by wedding, want to buy a new house and a start-up that I am working with a friend on. Plus, the yellow isnt for me, and I really want an arles blue 90. So, I dont think I will be out of the game long, if I do end up selling out.

If you are buying the 90 from a LR Dealer there is no better warranty to buy than the one they will sell you, as they work with the Warranty company, H O W E V E R , do not expect a B2B coverage, the best you'll get is PT and some electronics ( which in a D90 is pretty much everything ).

Expect to pay ridiculous prices for 24/24

Jeff is correct, if you modify key components you will void the warranty, also pay close attention to the silly disclaimer of exclusions before you sign the contract.

QUICK EDIT:
Please buy Kevin's 90 so we can get rid of him quickly

Matt,
As an FYI - there's a nice 110 on Boston's Craigslist.
I am also toying with the idea of selling my 97 SW which is on CL too.

FWIW, I am pretty sure that none of the Warranty Companies worth having will cover a 90. They usually have a maximum age that they will cover which the 90's will not comply with. The only Warranties I have personally worked with that are worth a damn are Manufacturer's, National Warranty Administration Network (NWAN) and EasyCare. If I'm not mistaken, none will offer a Warranty for a D90.

Isn't the whole idea of an extended warranty that it "extends" the original warranty, not reinstates a warranty which is long expired? Even calling what amounts to a "maintenance insurance policy" on a 15+ year old vehicle a "warranty" seems generous in the extreme. The only question more apropos than why anyone would buy such a policy is why any company would sell it.

Thanks for the info and Kevin thanks for the PM. I really want a white or green defender soft top and if money works out I would like a 97. I have seen a few trucks on dealer websites so I was curious about used car warranties. If I fidn the right truck I will ask but it sounds like a waste of money.

Josh

I have no interest in an orange truck or a 110. I just have spent a lot of time reading this board in the last few months and see the polarized views on rebuilds and restorations that are happening everywhere from the UK to the USA. Just calling it as I see it.

Regardless of questionable histories there are some nice trucks here.

good luck with the search. if you do buy from a dealer...no harm in getting a quote on a warranty and seeing what is out there.
