Question VW TDI Buyback

Y'all with dieselgate VDubs, are you selling back to them or keeping it and taking some cash?

a friend of mine at work is planning to sell back. she's said she's had other lemon-ish issues with this particular so the program has been a godsend.

My son-in-law has one. Great car getting around 50mpg and runs likes a V6. He hasn't decided which way to go. I am surprised the EPA gestapo isn't forcing owners to turn over their vehicles for crushing.

I so nearly bought a GSW tdi last September, but something about VW's ability to beat the system without Urea held me back. Plus all the business (since resolved) about disintegrating HPFPs. Then this broke days after I shelved the idea.

Hell yeah I'm keeping it! Just to piss of the EPA and Bunny Hagers!. I'm not loosing MPG, I love it. Keeping it until it dies, which happens a lot with VW

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

Only if they cannot come up with a fix.

I'll probably sell mine back. If the charts they've posted are correct, I'll get more money back than I paid for it new.

I thought I read on Jalopnik that they were to be destroyed...3" hole drilled through the block, ECU destroyed, etc, etc...

Rocky there is urea in the 2012+ models. We have a fully loaded 2011 and love it but will likely opt for the buyback (and may not have an option since it doesn't have urea and may be cost prohibitive for them to fix) now that it's worth considerably less than it was and with the settlement we'd get back about $1k more than we paid for the thing to begin with. The wife wants an SUV (Lexus RX hybrid) anyway so the buyback becomes an attractive option. Our hope is that if we don't have an option to keep it based on our model and year that there'll be a higher pay-out, but that doesn't look likely.

Only on the Passat. The Jetta and Golf got it in 2015, I think.

Is there an option to keep it, take some cash, and not have it "fixed"?

No dog in the fight, just curious.

Yes it's posted in the other VW thread that's been open since this began, but basically there's a cash settlement component and then a buyback component and the two are independent, but the cash settlement is always in play.

If you don't get it "fixed" you will soon have trouble getting it registered in your state. Some will be quicker than others, but I suspect that virtually all states will require the fix be done to be able to legally drive.

I'm selling my wife's JSW back. We love it, but it is cursed. 3 people have hit it since we bought it 2 and half years ago. The title is clean but we could never get the kind of money that VW is supposed to pay out. I'm actually looking for one of the newer Golf Sportwagen TDI's. Nobody else makes a wagon with manual transmission.

The 500 cash and 500 credit is for the VW loyalty program. The buyback is a whole lot more. Supposedly if VW gets an approved fix they will be able to resell the cars they get in the buyback.

2015 Golfs have urea. First year. They actually went away from IRS in the rear because they need space for the urea tank.
