Virginia Tax Assessment

And here it is again - 2010 personal property tax assessment for my '97 SW: $26,460.00 (up 3k from the previous year and 5k from 2008)

My wife was floored (and pissed) again about the fact that we have a car that is appreciating in value (not all that bad considering I paid 18k for it), but selling it for that value is questionable. I know we've covered this before, but what are the ways to contest an assessment? Anything that offers me any reasonable chance of reduction?

Steve...I believe you maybe SOL. I have a couple of friends who appealed the values that were assessed on their F355s and 360 Modenas just as the exotic market went down the sh*tter last year and got no where.

Now, if only my rig was a nice silver f355 berlinetta.. And yeah, you're probably right. Doomed to pay nearly 3x that of my e39 M5.

Vta

There was talk about real property assessment reduction, maybe that will also help out the personal property as well.

I agree that it is complete bunk, it is yet again VA trying to get their hand in your wallet-

Glad Im a Texas resident!

Move to Canada. We don't assess vehicles as personal property in the way we do actual property as far as I am aware of. What's next, your wife's engagement ring gets taxed yearly.

Kinda weird is that VA assessed my '94 at $7900! I'm hoping they don't catch that mistake!
