vinyl wrap

So, was talking with a fellow Lowcountry Land Rover Club member not too long ago and he wants to make his 109 look a little more updated with some "murdered" wheels and a matte finish but at the same time doesn't want to do that to his awesome condition 109 without being able to reverse it. Changing the wheels are an easy reverse, but painting it in a matte finish would be tough to bring back the original patina.

So what we were talking about a vehicle wrap as it seems it would give it the matte finish he's looking for but would be able to remove at a later date and have the original paint underneath. Professionally done it seems to be in the $3000 range(around the same amount of a nice paint job, maybe $1000 less). If we attempt it and buy the vinyl and the heat gun, about $300-400ish. Of course we're thinking we'd try one panel first to test if we would have the skills to do this before attempting the entire 109.

Just wanted to see if anyone on here has any experience with this and what they thought of the process if they did it themselves and what were the costs? Any other info would be appreciated as well.
