A few thoughts there. I thought he had a yellow one? Maybe they're all starting to look familiar, but this green one looks familiar from some MOAB trip or something. Also, it has a USMC sticker on the windscreen which I'm assuming wasn't installed by him. Also non-matching spare!! Looks like maybe one of the older Rover Accessories trucks they used to do out there.

Back in the day I remember seeing him on MTV Cribs with a green one. This is the third one in LA that I know if in green with a bunch of safarigard stuff. Actually this could be the same truck I see parked all the time in Santa Monica. I will get a pic next time I drive by.

Looking at the light surrounds, Ashton's is '94 or '95. The other one is a '97.

How did he get a manual drive stuck in reverse?

Meh.
It was either do what he did, which I don't see a problem with other than the initial close call, or sit and block traffic until a tow truck came. I probably would have done the same thing, just being a bit more careful at the beginning.
The illegal going through a red wasn't (unless there's a "no backing through a right turn on red" law), except for not completely stopping, like the car behind him didn't.

Why do people care about what "stars" do?

I've seen this one in SM too and there is always one in westwood with a crustier looking older guy driving it. (I apologize to anyone on this board if that is you) Same lift. Same safariguard bumper/light combo

Agree. I think he actually did a nice move getting it out of the way and off the main road.

I can only imagine how annoying those people taking video and pictures are - they seem like little gnats - "Hey Ashton, your car is stuck on reverse" "On" reverse? Morons.

Once that screw lets go that holds the shifter in place, you're stuck in whatever gear the transmission is in until you can take the shifter apart. My old LT77 left me stuck in 3rd twice before I used some red threadlocker. I'm sure I annoyed many-o-folks by driving on a 65 MPH road in 3rd/low.

I could be that "crustier looking older guy" you're talking about. But I'm not. I was born in Santa Monica, but I escaped in '53.

I had a similar thing happen in my LR3 back when I had it. It got stuck in reverse backing out of the driveway. I imagine Ashton driving a Green 90 really drives the value of the green defenders up in LA.

Looks to be a '94 from the tail lights.

My understanding is that Barry was significantly let down that it wasn't a Conniston SW with the white roof.
