vin check?

hey guys i am buying this 84 defender 90 but when i called my insurance company a few weeks ago they said they couldn't find any record of the VIN being in the "system" could it be because the vehicle is out of the state i am in? and they check like the new york data base or something? also the truck is in New hampshire but it has/had a clear PA title he has just registered it and i am waiting on the the new title to come in before i pick the truck up. but if anyone has access to something to check the vin that would be great! vin is SALLDAVC7AA217318 as i am sure the guy i am buying this from is going to be reading this!
but i am just trying to get some information on it because i dont know who to talk to about it!

ROW VIN's are different than the ones LR used in the US. That's likely why they can't find it.

you likely can't.

Just explain that its an imported vehicle. Falling under the 25 year or later exemption rules.
If you can get a copy of the importation/initial US title docs that usually helps.

insurance

So what insurance companies are people using for their ROW Landies?
I know State Farm will not cover one if not in "the system".

Bad info. A lazy state farm agent may not want to do the leg work, but state farm will insure ROW Landies.

Liberty mutual, agreed value policy. I have it specified on my policy that it is an imported RHD vehicle

State Farm insured my RHD UK D90 with no problems. They just realized it's a gray market from the VIN. Due to its condition, they increased my deductible for comprehensive insurance to $500, so I just removed my comprehensive altogether.

Altogether, no problems with State Farm insuring the D90, except that it's expensive as heck, about $500 a year insure.
