Verbal Attack

I had a pedestrian holler at me in downtown Portland, Or. Saturday while driving my D90. He said "It doesn't matter how BIG your vehicle is, you still can't make a left turn here".

He assumed that I was making a left turn at an intersection that does not allow left turns. I was not turning left and my blinker was not on. My impression of his statement was that he was looking for a reason to yell at me becuase I drive a V-8 powered vehicle.

Has anyone else experienced this type of negativity while driving their V-8 powered Land Rovers?

I did yell @$$ hole back...

By the way, I carpoole to work and drive an old Porsche 944 most of the time since the gas prices have escaladed, so I have reduced my environmental footprint.

DJ had a funny story similar to yours... http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...8&postcount=11

Slap a solar panel on top of the Defender, maybe the greenies will leave you alone then.

Some of you know that the 90 and (110's I'm sure) don't get off from stop lights too quick. Last week I was on a route that has a 50 MPH limit but has a bunch of stop lights (Route 35, in Monmouth County for fellow Jerseits) and had a lady blasting her horn 2 cars behind when I was getting going when the light turned green. I have a R380 and the 1st to 2nd has to be slow as to not make grinding noises. I'm faster than a tri-axel dump but slower than her slushbox Kia. She went by flipping me off and yelling stuff - I just shook my head and was like "WTF?"

2 lights later I caught up - I guess she made really fast time : And rolled by looking at her. She started up acting crazy again. All I was thinking - she must be going home or to work at some pretty shitty place in a really shitty car. It was a nice day - I had the top off the ST and was enjoying rowing the gears.

I really dislike small crapbox's w/ auto trannys.

Yes! I just recently moved to Maine and have been getting it alot lately. No one ever cared in LA but out here Ive been getting quite a bit of flack. I did see a great bumper sticker on the back of an F250 yesterday. "More fuel was wasted shipping your Prius here than you"ll ever save by driving it!"

I have never had anyone ever mouth off to me while they were standing infront of my truck and able to to get a reality check on the physical girth and stature of an ARB staring back at them, but I have received many glare's from the "Pious" (South Park Prius) drivers here in the bay area. And there are a lot of them here! Of course I am sure that most of those smug looks of distain I get at the stop light would immediately turn to shock and horror, if after when we start rolling I inadvertently drifted into their lanes and they see that a side impact airbag is going no match for ARB bumber coming through their window. I have always believed blunt instruments are far better than sharp ones.... they leave a messy, lasting impression. But overall most people I have encountered appreciate a fine machine. I my part of the world mercedes and jaguars are as abundant as skittles and Ferrari's, Bently's and Aston Martins are seen daily.... I can go for weeks/months without seeing a single defender (other than mine)...

Every time I see someone driving a prius I just think...good for you, you're helping to offset my 3 v8s that I'm not about to get rid of! haha

Funny thing is, they did a comparison of 550 miles city/highway between the diesel BMW 5 series and the prius and the 5 got better mileage! I'm not sure what the difference in emissions may have been, but like someone else said, the production of the batteries is probably way worse, not to mention the disposal when they start to die!

Hmm, nobody has talked shiiite yet, at least I have never noticed anyone verbally attacking me but I have a theory why. If Liberals would first attack anyone it would be the many Exployer, minivan, surburbans and expeditions drivers first. But those vehicles are typically driven by the large latino population we have in LA due to the size of their families. However seeing how non confrontational people are towards the latino community, I doubt this would happen as liberals are scared of pissing off the people that cook their food and make their beds. Last night I picked up Britney and Whitney Stevens (Two famous real sisters in porn, google them) in my 110 along with some coke dealer and we partied at the standard in downtown LA in some guys suite. Nothing crazy happened, just alcohol and bumps (lines of coke). I don't do coke but I don't trip when I see people doing it. Man those girls do a lot of coke thats for sure, Whitney asked me to call her this week so hopefully it'll be good times at the club.

I had an old neighbor make a snide comment when I parked my 90 in front of her house. Something along the lines of "couldnt y ou get a bigger car that got worse gas milage". I hate to say it but I got great pleasure when I rolled up in my first 110 and was able to say "yes I could and yes I did"

Bah, ask those pious Mainer's what they heat their house with in the long winters and why they don't move to Florida to save the earth.

Good point about the tree burning Mainers. I want to College up there. Lots of ClamShelling {no nukes] hippie freaks up there. Lots of really cool people too.
BTW, moving to FLorida won't help much. Ya gotta run your A/C full blast 24/7 for like eleven months of the year or you will die.

Never had anyone yell at me. Might be the pissed off look on my face or something. Watched Penn and Teller's Bullshit last Thursday and they were destroying the green movement. Just love that Al the environmental profit is more of a energy hog than my entire condo building! Of cousre he's got a pretty good scam going buying carbon credits from the carbon credit off set company he owns.

Dont get me wrong I love Maine. I moved there because i didnt want to raise my kids in LA. (See Neils post about porn stars and drug dealers and that should give you some indication why)
but I have noticed people are more outspoken about the 110 than the car loving community of Los Angeles.

I don't, but some people still do apparently. It wasn't my choice, I was just gonna drop them off there, and whitney said come up and party with them. The only other time I partied there was on New Years during Giant and it was sold out. Rest of the year it looks pretty calm. Phoenix LA is not that bad, its all about the people you surround yourself with. I live in South Pasadena, lots of families and not a whole lot of Barack Hussein Obama lovers. (just a few)
