More creative than me, just got d90 so I could swap out the yellow plates.

I have old 1968 vintage plates on the series, here in VA if no one has that number you can still use them on a truck registered as an antique.
the old RRC had WLDKGDM

When I bought my Series 88" the license plate said NINE TEA. The former owner had a D90 and tranferred the tags to his Series, this was in PA. I think I threw it away though.

Chuck - do you know the process for getting vanity Antique plates in VA? I tried with my black plates but the DMV customer service had no idea what I asking for.

You can't unless you are using original "vintage" plates issued in that year. Current vintage/antique plates can not be vanity.

I know people that have vanity antique plates in VA. I have never seen black VA antique plates, but I have seen the yellow antique plates with vanity phrases.

Really? DMV said no. Even on the website you couldn't do it.

I think anything vanity has to be current and inspected.

I agree 100%. That was the vague response I got from the DMV.

But you can put a 1970 vanity plate (if there was such a thing) on a 1970 Rover.

I seem to constantly have this argument with people on vanity / antique plates in VA. As my irrefutable evidence I always submit exhibit A. The odds of randomly getting this combination of letters on a mid-80's 308? Unlikely .

Also, that's my poor-mans Ferrari parked to the right.

Thoroughly impressed that you put that together. From my description or the picture is the million dollar question .

Blame my old man, he had one when I was growing up so I had to find the same year/make/model/color/etc. Took 8 years. It's my one sports car among a fleet of Rovers, sort of the black-sheep / redheaded-stepchild.

I just checked the VA DMV website and you can now order vanity Antique plates! And according to the form, you don't need a safety inspection for them.

What did catch my eye was if convicted of misuse of Antique plates you can't register your car for 5 years!

my odometer cut out years ago, so I am safe there. Pretty hard to prove how much I drive it other than seeing me in it. I drive it once or twice a week to a soccer game or the grocery store.

Can't they tell by the trails of oil drips?

Vanity plates are not really my style but as I was looking at my list of things I have done and things left to do I thought a great plate would be DFUNDER. No one but other D owners would get it
