Vacation, Seattle, vancover island,

Going on vacation, will fly into Seattle to visit family for a few days, then rent car and drive to Vancouver Island, then drive to Lake Louise. Then head south to Yellowstone for a few days, then back to Seattle. Will cross the Rockies twice.
Any advice on where to stay and what not to miss?

Lake Louise/Plain of Six Glaciers is really awesome.
Vancouver Island is supposed to have some cool botanical gardens. Pay for a reservation for the ferry and make sure you get there during the reservation boarding window. Otherwise you can kiss any kind of achedule you may have goodbye.

Vancouver island has some of the last old growth forests left in the world.

Planning on stopping in Vancouver? If so you have a place to crash. At least stop by for some scotch and defender talk. Depending on timing (your and mine) we can even go take a tour of some local offroading.

Spent a LOT of time in all of those places. Father-in-law is Canadian. Try and hit the Empress Hotel in Victoria for Tea. Tofino and Sidney are great as well. If you don't spend at least one night at the Post Hotel or Chateau Lake Louise you cra-cra. Hike (walk) to the glacier or canoe on the lake. If you're an oenophile the Post is a must.

Yellowstone is about to blow. I'd avoid anything southeast of it..

Hope this helps..

Butchart Gardens is what they are talking about. Mind-blowing....

If you have time, check out Glacier Nat Pk on the way down to YNP. However, since you're in the Canadian Rockies first, the American Rockies may be a let down in comparison.

On Vancouver Island:
Ucluelet and/or Tofino, Butchart Gardens although could be touristy.

Gulf Islands:
Stop over if you can.

Vancouver take the north route. Vancouver - Whistler- Pemberton - Cache Creek - Kamloops - Lake Louise. In Lake Louise take the Ice Field Parkway to Jasper and back. Lake Louise - Canmore - through Kananaskis Country to HWY 22 - follow 22 to US boarder and St Mary's and then over the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park in Montana. My local knowledge fades after this but I am sure it is equally spectacular.

If you are driving from Seattle you might want drive a little south and go across the bridge at the Tacoma Narrows so you can stop by and check out Brian's Shop (Defenders Northwest) in Gig Harbor - usually lots of trucks to gawk at ... then you can continue driving up the Olympic Peninsula and go to Victoria on the Ferry out of Port Angeles. Tofino & Ucluelet are both gorgeous, you can also take the ferry at Campbell River to Quadra Island/ Cortes Island which are also great places to visit... the whole area is stunning, you will have a great trip!

My wife runs a lot of tours out of Vancouver. Her company runs bus tours to but hart gardens. Favorites were whale watching in Victoria, they'll run you through the San juans and see the killer whale pods, pretty amazing. Take the RIBs,not the big slow boats.

Gondola in Squamish on the mainland and the mining museum is pretty cool. Whistler is a lot of fun in the summer, zip lines and mountain biking, good food and beer. Peak to peak is amazing. I also like the grouse mountain hike in Vancouver but you can take the gondola up for some awesome views and again, beer at the top.

Let me know when you're coming through Bellingham.

Do not miss Tofino on west coast of Vancouver Island. Incredibly cool town.

X2 Best views of Vancouver. I always feel like a Bond villain (specifically Telly Savalas) when I'm up there.
