VA Personal Property Tax

Virgnia rasied my rover assessment last year from 12,500, to 15k. Just got my tax bill this year and now they are assessing my rig at 18k. 3k appreciation in one year!? How in the world do they arrive at these assessment values?

Cool

Assessing based on the value of expected new/replaced parts in the past year?

Yeah, I love how my assessed value for my condo in Fairfax County went down by 20%, but my taxes went up by 5%. That is a bunch of BS.

I wish the legislators would get there crap together and quit wasting our money on stupid things. They say the national debt will double in the next ten years based on the current spending. Say "Hello" to some higher taxes.

Welcome to the "Obama-nation".

I have always hated VA ppt. It's way bogus. Esp when you're paying tax on something that hasn't been in the state for over 5 years.

Bill, Arlington allows you to appeal, though it may necessitate an appraisal. Same is true of your home assessment, though they make the process to do so an absolute nightmare.

Ya I am waiting to hear back now from the tax assessor right now. My Vette that I store at my folks house in Fairfax is treated as a 1976 Chevy. I pay 25 bucks on it a year. It varies so much from county to county.

Nice to know. Now that I no longer live in VA my tax (registration) each year is only 34.00. Man gotta love all the people who visit Florida and pay my PP taxes.

Thanks All

I had a sailboat at a storage site that I hadn't even registered in VA yet. They went through the records and sent me a bill.

Registration is one thing, but don't get me started on insurance. 2 Adults can only possibly drive 2 cars at a time (yet mostly drive one anyway), and don't necessarily drive more miles because they have more than 2 cars (just put less miles on each), yet you don't get cut much slack for owning 5 of the damn things. And I'm not talking full coverage, just collision on most of them.

At least, with Arlington, you feel like you're getting some services. With Fairfax, it just gets sucked into a black hole. Getting them to give us a new recycle bin has been a 10 month fuckall. Really looking forward to my assessments now.

Steve, I've got 2 15 gallon recycling buckets and a 30 gallon rolling bin. All free! Street is riddled with potholes, the traffic light at the end of the streets defaulted to flash 3 weeks ago and we've been waiting 2 years for a streetlight, and there's no budget for any repairs, but god DAMN can we recycle!

Just "borrow" one of the many the house on the corner of Rhode Island and Mass have.

Be glad, my county has no recycling and I have to drive the garbage to the dump myself!

I have yet to receive a personal propety tax bill in VA. I will by the end of this year though.

You mean the aussie embassy? I've been to some happy hours there and yeah, they have a lot of cans and bottles coming out of there for sure.
