US customs

Just curious, i'm receiving some parts from UK
thru Miami, and they want to charge me for
transit.
What is the top value for importing stuff
in the US without custom fee ?

Thanks

It depends on the value of the order, but I believe if you spend more than $xxx then you'll get hit with a US customs duty.

2.5% on auto parts. The actual transit/shipping is not part of the duty calc. just the price of the parts. Hope that helps you out.

So duty is $7.03

I frequently get duty bills after the fact for items imported via UPS. I ignored one of those bills on a Tdi starter ($4 duty) and g man pursued the issue. My suggestion would be to pay it with a smile. The democratic administration needs the money to fund bailouts.

Something is very wrong $191 duty on $281 in parts ? Some body fat fingered a key board some where. For auto parts and used vehicles the duty is 2.5% of the purchase price not to include shipping cost. Who is the customs broker/clearing agent- thats the person you need to get to fix this.
I wouldn't pay either.

In US you also have to pay customs by hour if they decide to check the goods you are bringing in.
Just had my Defender shipped in from Europe. Customs choosed it out for checking and spend more then 8 hours on that. The bill was more then 700 dollar, to pay to customs (through the brooker).
The damage they had done to the car (appr 2000 dollar) is of course for me.

Maybe your bill is related to something like this.

You should have an informal clearance and that is mostly broker fees. Importing parts is not for the faint at heart thats for sure.

I got hit with the X-ray BS also... It would seem that that cost should be spread between ALL containers coming in.

What was in the box?

Stephen, are you interested in the package.
I think it's in Orlando, it was coming with
Virgin Atlantic. If you pay the fee, you can
have the parts. The value of the parts is
271 USD, it's a complete set of D2 fender
flares from Britpart.

I'm not going to pay the fee, i feel they took
advantage of me because i'm not there and
can't fight for it.

Let me know what you think.
