UMM Alter 4x4

Looking for a new project and am considering a UMM Alter, a Portuguese built 4x4, and quite possibly the homeliest vehicle unleashed on the public since the 60's...but ugly in a cool and likeable way, unlike an Aztec.

I've done my homework and there are folks here who can help me find one and I'll be looking to others here for import if I don't come to my senses.

I am looking for thoughts from any of the folks here who have any experience with them in their travels or someone to talk me out of this...

The upside is that a vehicle built by a state subsidized company out of Peugeot and Jeep parts with just enough propriety components to make you crazy should make my Rovers look great by comparison.
