UK contacts?

Hello all,
Finally made it to the UK. In the search for good Defender for my time here. Anybody have any good contacts here or know a website besides autotrader? Also is there a Kelley Blue Booek equivalent here?

Cheers,
Andy

You're very close to Foley's (www.foleysv.com) in Essex...about a hour away from your location it looks like. GREAT folks, an honest family-run business since the 60s - I'm sure not only can they find/sell you a car but they offer service as well. Tell Stuart I sent you ....let's just say I think I talked to him more than my wife this past year!

Glencoyne in Thetford occasionally has vehicles for sale but Richard should be your go to guy for all work on whatever truck you get. He's close to base, does the VAT free scheme from base, and does really great work. Another shop I used when I was there was Mansfield 4x4 in Bury St Edmunds. They also did the same thing but are a larger shop so they can usually get you in same day no problem if it's something minor. Both shops do good work and could probably point you to decent vehicles locally to that area.

Mansfield 4x4 is around there. Join the local LR Club. Get muddy, and drink with the locals :

Oh and I will add don't hesitate to buy a vehicle from far away. I got a smokin' deal on my 110 from way up in Scotland and did a night train to view it in the AM then drove it straight back. Less than 50k original miles. Scour the whole country for the right one.

Never made it to England...

Have fun finding the right truck! This is an exciting search... You should document your search with all the cars you look at and the positives and negatives. Ending with the truck you purchase and a complete rundown on it. Reality TV worthy.

Not my part of the UK.

Suggest you ask on defender2.net which is mainly UK based.

A starting point might be approved second hand vehicles on Landrover.co.uk

Garages away from the major military bases might not be used to the VAT exemption for visiting service personnel so it might be worth mentioning it when you first approach a garage rather then drop it at a bombshell at the last minute. Yes it is straightforward to do as long as the right paper is done.

Just avoid companies with BLR in their title

If you are here towards end of September probably the best UK LR show is Peterborough.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to the uk the equivelent to kelley's is the glass's guide : glass.co.uk
this is the book you see car dealers refer to at auctions though its not readily available outside the trade.

you could also keep an eye on withams: http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehi...and_Rovers.htm

They often have LHD's depends how old a vehicle you want, defenders often show up in general vehicle auctions and 4x4 specific auctions run around the country.

eg. http://www.auctioneers.co.uk/auction...p?id=303&grp=5

you could also visit the LR shows and auto jumbles and check out the car parks always loads for sale, I've no doubt you'll find the vehicle you want.

good hunting
Gren

Not that I know much, but that one seems to have the 2.5TD. I would look for one of that vintage with the 200tdi.

Ok so I went down to Foleys. Great guy with a lot of nice trucks. His stuff is a bit out of my price range however to say the least. Yesterday, I drove up to Land Rover Valhalla, aka the ex-MOD sales lot. About an hour and a half from RAF Mildenhall. I drove an ex RAF 90, tried to drive a tank, etc etc. Pretty sweet. What do you guys know about the Tithonus 110s. They are having a sale now for 3500 GBP, so about 6000 USD! Are these pretty good trucks?
