Ugh, finding someone to paint the LOOB sux...

So how do you pick a body shop to do a respray? I have no clue where to start and there are about 100 body shops within 5 miles. I hate the idea of personally visiting them and frankly don't trust reviews posted on the web.

Do you have any classic car clubs in your area?

Asking some of those guys would likely yield good results.......there are several here and I have had good success finding good shops by asking the members.

Also check out aircraft and boat painters. They paint aluminum every day.

What kind of budget do you have? The only body shop I know of is Burleigh's in Richmond, Va. Most of the luxury dealers in Richmond send their cars there, as well as Ferrari and Maserati in NoVa. The owner always has a Land Rover. They definitely aren't cheap, but do great work.

I can go up to like 3 grand. With other RRCs selling for 20 thou, this truck certainly stands up well or better than those examples. I don't think I need to go to RVA tho. There are a LOT of body shops in my area.
The thing is that I don't want them to just tape it off and shoot it. I will probably have to pull all the trims and rubber and all that off before taking it in so this will be a fair-weather project for sure and I guess I will have to use the 2A as my DD for the duration. I'll have to leave in the windshield tho...
I will also need the pin stripe redone

I'm not sure boat and plane painters would be the direction I'd go... they're not going to strip this LWB to bare Aluminium and start over so you basically want a car painter.

I'ts not easy to get anything painted for less than 3 grand.

I would find a local hobby guy who does it out of his workshop... a hotrodder or custom paint guy...they're out there.

And paint ain't cheap. I bet just the paint/supplies to do a LWB would run $500.

A good painter will stuff that string under the windshield rubber and lift it slightly for the spray so when it lays down you can't tell...not just taping it off. RRC windshield rubber works well for this.

The materials to paint just the two front wings and hood/bonnet on Trey's 110 ran over $500. That was several years ago. I sprayed it with an hvlp gun and we used Dupont centari acrylic enamel. The stuff is still shiny years later and has never been waxed and always parked outside.

Not all paints are created equal and many painters will only shoot their "brand". The guy I'm using now is a ppg guy. Going to have him repaint my loob after the Nantucket trucks are finished and delivered.

Hurry! Jonesy said he saw some of the workers welding a galvy rearX without a mask or ventilation. The guy was sick for weeks afterwords.
