Had a business trip for a convention in the Big Easy w/my father this past week, learned a lot. Did some sight seeing on foot mostly. Ate at a few different places like Lucy's (lots of fun), Mulate's (good gator Po'Boy), and cafe on the corner of Lafayette and Commerce (awesome breakfast egg sandwich).
So I told my father that we could not pass up the chance to visit a certain parts dealer. So on our last day we went over to RDS, emailed him earlier in the week to see if he would be willing to humor a rover nut such as myself and lo and behold he said sure, just give him a heads up before coming over.
We get there, park, knock, enter and there he is the man behind the curtain. Crazy George, not as old as one thinks
from his demeanor over the phone. Was tons of fun to talk to. Pretty cool to hear how he started out, his experience with Katrina/flood. Showed us around his warehouse, talk about being a kid in a candy store. My eyes were as big as dinner plates. Hell even my father was smile'in.
Talked about the history behind this part and that part, just tons of info to take in. Showed us his workshop. Gave me some really good tips on how to rebuild my old transmission and how this and that of various mechanical sections are normal for a rover.
I would have taken a picture of him. The man behind the curtain, but I was unable to. But I do have this rendering of him in case you see him in the rover wild.
Appreciate George opening his doors to me and my father and getting a peek behind the curtain.
