The wife & I toured Solihull in 96 or 97 . . . it was a blast! And it was free back then.
The P38 & Disco lines were very mechanized and had a couple of robots while the Defender line was almost all assembled by hand.

Matt,
What are the numbered pads around the pond ? Is that a fly casting training pond or something ?

Employee fishing pond. All present and past factory employees are aloud to fish there during breaks and on their days off.

For what it's worth, that's my ugly mug in these photos. Much thanks to my brother, Matt, for joining me on the trip and for photo documenting our visit to Land Rover.

Mike,

Land Rover will not allow you to take photos while on the factory floor. However, there is one exception to this rule. Guests are allowed to take photos when they enter the Celebration Line. The Celebration Line is a contained area and it is situated right on the factory floor. This is where you will see the Series I's in the pictures above.

If you're interested in making the most of your trip (i.e., a full "Tour de Land Rover"), I'd also recommend paying a visit to the British Motor Industry Heritage Centre (Gaydon, Warwickshire) and spending some time at one of the Land Rover Experience Driving Schools (Driving Centres - United Kingdom - Land Rover Experience). I'm partial to the School at Eastnor Castle.

Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions! Rest assured, you'll have a great time!

We were told that the last Defender will roll off the assembly line in mid-December 2015. So, you should be fine.

Well sadly Will I am not so sure. I went on there to buy tickets for November and all of November seems to be sold out!

Sucks.

I am working out a vacation in June (should be booking all associated outings this weekend if all goes well) to go to the Dunsfold Collection days, and am trying to tie in a Land Rover Experience, the Defender line tour, possible something at the Top Gear Test Track, and Scotland Overland rental. So far the GF seems interested as long as we stay at a castle or two.

Well since they are shutting it (the defender line the tour is based on) down this year. You may want to hasten your calendar.
