Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it sounds like everything else is OK, and that is what is most important.

As for the Rover....to be honest, I've had my eyes and hands on quite a lot of salvage Defenders over the years. I'm not saying it would be easy (or cheap) but I've seen trucks in much worse condition that were eventually fully rebuilt. All the parts are replaceable and you never know, it could be a fun long-term project.

At any rate, just throwing a little positive energy your way.

Sorry about the damage to your pride and joy. I can honestly tell you that I feel your pain. A garage fire took out my previous defender and it was gut wrenching. You just have to tell yourself that all of it is material crap and can be replaced or fixed. It sucks, but gotta look at the positives and look forward to new beginnings.

I keep parking my '97 C class under the big oak tree in front of my house just hoping the same thing will happen. But it never does.

So sorry for your loss. If they can't save her give me a call. I will hook you up with a new one at cost.

I know how you feel. I lost a lightweight in an accident.

Very very sorry to hear and see.

Do you know if that tree fell on it slowly? If so the frame and some stuff could be fine and might be able to rebuild. Tub doesn't look bad in the one pic.

Crazy how that windscreen was fine!

I know you weren't there, but if you had been, the sound that tree made when it hit the roof of your rover would have sounded like this: "CRACKKKKKK, WOOSHHH, PUMMMMAAAAHHHH!!"

Really glad to see you, the family, and the boost wheels are all OK. That's all that matters.

Sucks Mate. As the others have said, hopefully now you can rebuild/start over and make it just a bit better than before.

Thank god you guys are ok. During Hurricane Sandy a tree twice that size missed my truck by about an inch!

Regarding Will's suggestion, maybe someone will cut you a deal on a puma body!

I hope you dont get screwed on the insurance! My agent has told me if something like this happened the company would probably go off my tax value since you cant get a KBB value. And the tax value is quite low.

You must rebuild!

Glad you're ok---I'd be surprised if the frame is still straight after this incident...

So sorry to see the destruction of such a great looking truck. After hurricanes Francis and Jeanne I lost over a dozen oak trees up my driveway - never the same without those trees. Glad your family is ok that is the most important thing.

Car insurance

I'm happy to hear everyone is ok.

I don't know the laws in your state or the policies of your insurance company but when I worked in insurance (GEICO) many years ago they taught us that the insured (you) has the option of taking cash "replacement value" or demand the insurance company provide a vehicle of "like kind and quality."

They generally don't like to make that information known as people with a 97 Hyaundi with 200,000 miles may demand a similar car rather than get the 700 dollars it is worth. But in the case with a rare vehicle (such as a Defender) it may be an avenue worth pursuing. If nothing else it may help the insurance agent understand how difficult it is to replace such a beloved vehicle.

Hope this helps and good luck.
