Top Gear USA

Anyone see the first episode? I thought it was pretty good. Probably the best version of the original. The Australian version is too slow and boring even though they do some off road episodes, and the Russian version was just bizarre.

Least its watchable when the British one is off air.

I'm still pissed I wasn't approached to do the series (was a dream of mine). I figure I most closely resemble Hammond.

I thought it was pretty good. Wish they had used the Ah-64 Apache instead of the legacy AH-10 Cobra, but all the same, it was well done.

180mph in a Lambo? Sounds like a great day in the office~

I thought it was kind of lame. A tv show about cars is easy to make but the chemistry between the presenters is what makes Top Gear, Top Gear. I fast forwarded through the car vs. helicopter (nothing new there) bit and was bored out of my mind during the Lambo bit. It just seems so forced right now and the ideas for segments so very recycled (ramming into the back of each other in the season preview). Its early though so we will have to wait and see.

It will be hard to judge the series by one episode. Im such a fan of the UK version it was hard to watch US version. The chemistry of Clarkson, Hammond, and May is hard to beat. The banter between the three makes the show. Plus i'm unsure if the US presenters will have nearly the car knowledge of the UK presenters. I hope Tanner Frost gets more of a personality.

And the introduction of the Stig?

Perhaps they need to take a road trip to the Uk and take the piss out of us brits as the BBC team did in the USA a couple of years back!

As a die-hard top gear fan, I enjoyed it. While the chemistry isn't quite there yet, I think it will develop. They show promise.

The rest of the season looks to be good. I'm remaining optimistic.

One problem I do see with it, however, is the studio bits feel very rushed. Obviously commercials and it being their first time trying it. I have no doubt it will improve.

Thumbs up

Reviewers says it hits its pace at the 3rd episode.

Personally, I think it was the best TV on Sunday night

I laughed out loud a few times...and the preview where they call Faust the "Brian Boytano" of racing is hilarious.

The subject matter and hosts were better than I expected...but they need to fire whomever rigged the cameras...that was some crappy, jittery, out of focus garbage in the Viper segment...

Looking forward to next week....

I really *tried* to like it, but it was sh*t.

Nothing beats the UK version, this wasn't even close.

I thought it was OK.

Ditto on the horrible production quality of the jittery camera.

I also agree on a wait-and-see attitude about the chem - these guys are going to need to explore what works.

I think the nah-sayers need to go find a season one UK Top Gear to remember how that begun. I think these US guys are working hard on the car-talk knowledge. Obviously they do not have 15 seasons of TOP GEAR experience and car driving to draw upon but they may grow into it.

Yeah I think we can all agree it's no BBC Top Gear, Jezza, Slow and Hamster make the show. I hope the USA guys aren't forced to pick on each other because in the Aussie version they are like cookie cut to be like the original presenters and have been through 3 sets of hosts in 3 series already. It is bad. As long as the USA guys act normal and not force the bickering it will a good show

Not really fair to compare 3 guys who just met to 3 guys who have spent 10+ years together.

I dare you to watch this without fast forwarding...it is painful...esp the fat douche...

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. My question is why?
The original is better, why do we need a new version?

It wasn't as crap as I'd thought it would be, the presenters need time to settle in, I'm not sure they will be as raw as the UK version ... rubbishing cars, stereotyping drivers of particular brands and generally telling it how it is ...

The production quality was a bit mixed ... but i guess they have to balance a budget.

It was better than any other US motoring show that I've ever seen. So on that basis I support it as a filler between episodes of the real thing!
