The Powerwagon with a diesel would be awesome. Doubt it will be made but it would be cool if it was.

Haha. 1 Jeep, 2 Fords trucks, 2 of the same truck (GMC and Chevy), 2 Dodge trucks, 1 Nissan, 1 Toyota, and a Gwagen - they make the Gwagen here in the US now, right? Or is that just the ML?

That mag needs to do a proper search for the Holy Grail of 4x4's.

Just the ML is made in Alabama - and it has a notorious service history because of it too. I work in the Mercedes field most days and hear and see it all the time. The G Wagen is my wifes fav, but it is just not that great to drive. For 124k, it is just stupid expensive for what it is. I would imagine not 1 in thousands is ever driven down a dirt road, let alone off-road. The clearance is for sh*t.

I am s l o w l y bringing my wife to love the D90.

If an 18 year old 110 is worth $50,000 - $60,000 - a brand new Gwagen is well worth $125k

But....to each his own

After spending alot of time with my fathers G, I can say it is the most solid vehicle I have ever been around. I simply love it.

I think a D could probably out travel a G though... it has always been my opinion at least, which is not always worth more than a few cents.
I put the G in the same league with the current Range Rovers (L322) - very capable, but not to the extreme. My L322 was pretty good, but just missed something that the D has.

The price of new cars is getting crazy high though! A friend just bought a denali 4 door for like 67k

Speaking of ALABAMA.......my wife's ML350 has been very low maintenance for the first 120,000 miles anyway. What are they known for as problems?

If you visit MBWORLD or BENZWORLD forums you will see. They have a ton of gremlins in the early years that tend to plague them. Germany sent people to investigate and I was told they "used" to also do engine assembly at the AL plant, but then it was determined that the drive trains need to be shipped from Deutschland. After that the quality went up quite a bit. The other problem was fit and finish issues. Over time those too have been resolved for the most part.
In working on them myself, I do find quite a few missing screws and such. Nothing major, just something I don't see in an E Class or other.
They are still fine cars, just had a troubled start with the manufacturing stateside. In the 80's and 90's and early 00's it is my opinion we just did not produce good cars. I used to teach in some GM plants, and the stories I could tell..... but that would start a war I am sure, and I would prefer to keep the peace and keep all that to myself.

G Class

I like Range Rovers, but I wouldnt put a RR in the same class as a G Wagen....I think the Gwagen would stop its British counterpart. They have been designed to be capable in rugged and demanding terrain, I dont think the same can be said for a RR anymore.

My dad has an 03 G and a 08 RR supercharged. They are very different vehicles. The RR is driven daily and the G is a garage queen. My dad is 77 and simply likes the comfort and ease of driving the RR. Although the G is luxurious and has almost every gadget that the RR has, when driving you can always tell you are in a purpose built offroader.
