Toe Box Corrosion Protection

The latest RN News (Winter 2008) has an article on using an old mudflap to protect the toe box area exposed by the cutout on the inner fenderwell.

This is one of those "duh, why didn't I think of this?" ideas, and makes a lot of sense to me.

Has anyone done this? It sounds like a must-do if you drive the roads in VT...
