Titling an imported defender - Georgia

Hey folks,
Here soon I am going to have to title and register my 86 defender that is coming over from the UK. Is anyone here familiar with the Georgia process? If so, please share the details of the process. If not, North Carolina is an option too since I am considered a resident there.

Thanks - Dave

Off the top of my head, you've got winn442 and Shawn on the board who have imports. There's also apparently this genius from ExPo named 1 1b4v who says it's basically the easiest state to title whatever the hell you want.

Not Georgia but this may be similar. I titled and registered my 86 110 in Alabama. The DMV needed a copy of the DOT form and EPA forms stamped by customs (I picked it up in JAX, FL). They also needed to visually confirm the VIN. They sent an application for title and I received it a couple of weeks later. They were able to register and tag the truck right away so I could start driving it while waiting for the title. A small fee was added but I can't remember how much. Your DMV may not be familiar with this process so you need to ensure they have copies of all these documents so that there are no delays in your application.

I dont know if I can help. Both of my trucks that I have had already had US titles. I would imagine that the DMV with a truck that old does not need a title. I think that in GA to get a tag on a 25 year old truck you do not need a title. You can call me at 404.234.6969 and I can try and help.
