@ Dave:
I was surprised to find them that heavy.
My 32" (...) Simexs on 8 spokes rims are much lighter than my old, worn, bald XZLs in 7.50 size on Wolf rims.
It's not a great comparison but for some strange reason I thought they were lighter.
Oh,who cares...
...they' re gonna put the Mantec carrier to the test*!

@Ron:
I never heard of snowchains to fit 255 or 285/75 tyres,at least here in Italy...that's why I was a bit surprised...good buy thought!

*I'm gong to collect my truck cab roof this weekend, plan was to fit it as "summer conversion" only,
but I may leave it for good...get rid of the carrier...throw the spare in the back...aaaah...decisions,decisions...

It's really a shame that the Irok is not available in the size you guys are running. I have found it to be much lighter than most tires and absolutely remarkable offroad. I hope they get smaller sizes available in the radial for you guys.

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

I've thought that since the first time I'd seen the tire.

Michele the 285x75 doesnt seem to be that uncommon in the states.
I cant remember the make but they where easy to put on and had a cable that ran the outside of the side wall

Thanks Ron.
265/75 is the max I've ever heard of here (for snowchains).

As to the weight, you petrolheads...me not...!
The Cube has stock R/P ratio (3.54),and stock Tdi engine.
It pulls the 255s easily,I feel confident but the tyre/rim combo scared me a bit at 1st glance...

...I have to wait until the next week for the 1st road test though...

Is the added weight of the SS make axle /CV upgrades mandatory, compared to 255/85's?

It'd be a wise move.

Depending on the right foot...

*RT upgraded all around*

Just a follow up for anyone that cares. I took a highway ride yesterday and attempted to look at the rear tires as they spun. It appeared that the driver's side rear was bouncing a bit. Kinda tough to tell with the big side lugs, but I was pretty sure.

So I came home and put the spare on the left rear. No more bounce, even through the 55-65 spot where I had it before. It's not perfect, or I should say it's not like the BFG muds were. But for a super-aggressive bias ply tire, it's completely acceptable. I don't expect to get a whole lot of mileage off of them anyway, so I'll probably replacing in a year or two.

So I made the decision and sold the BFGs already, I'm sticking with the swampers full time. I'll probably be selling both remaining sets of wheels, 5 alloys and 5 SG 15x8 rims. Both are pretty well used, I'll post a for sale add as soon as I take some pictures.

I haven't upgraded anything yet on this truck as far as axles/CVs. I think with the open diffs, it really shouldn't matter for a while. Of course, lockers are on the list, so something will have to be done eventually.

I wish they were in smaller sizes too. I think the smallest one is like a 33x13.50R17 or something.

Yeah,

I think your right. Whats wierd is the smallest tire in a 15in rim is 36x13.50. These tires actually measure what they say, which makes them a hair larger than normal. But they are very light and work okay on the street for what they are.

I never checked AB honestly never think of them (or RN) for accessories, just parts.

I also got the Mantec from British Pacific on their 20% off day (thanks Hoss), so I'm pretty good on the price.

What does the Scorpion cost?

You can get larger tires if you don't use the high lift mount (according to 4x4ag). I think it was $450 maybe? check www.4x4ag.com

Follow-up Post:

Nope, $475

I don't see how that carrier will fit with the rack on. They both mount in the same location of the tub.

Agreed Dave. I put my new Mantec on Thursday. It unfortunately conflicts with the scorpion bumperettes I have, utilizing the one of the same holes. I think I'll attempt to shim the bumperette with some washers and use the same hole for that one bolt.

Souza, I have the scorpion bumpers and Mantec too. You can grind a slot into the bumperette to allow the mantec mount to slide into position. Then weld up the two together. Makes for a clean integration.
