Yeah, 100 a year seems like pie in the sky... but then again don't underestimate the strange microcosm that is the LA basin.

Hahahaha..... oh plenty of people down here drive 100k automobiles. Range Rovers, 911s, bentleys, you name it.

lol Given what we believe/know of the import regulations he will have problems.

Not just with Customs but also with Land Rover.
The Land Rover Defender Rides Again

Car enthusiast Matthew Perlman had a problem--he was obsessed with the Land Rover Defender, the iconic truck that for 65 years has proved its mettle in countless dicey situations. But Defenders are notoriously difficult to find and import to the U.S. So the 28-year-old Chicago native founded his own company to scour North America and Europe for vintage specimens. "The vehicles must be over 25 years old to be imported, so it is not as if we can just go to some lot and buy five at a time," Perlman says of his West Coast Defender brand. "We turn down eight out of ten vehicles we see." His staffers in England select vehicles in top condition, then restore them through a 230-checkpoint program before transferring them to Los Angeles. They'll turn out fewer than 100 this year. Choose two- or four-door models in right- or left-hand drive, gasoline or diesel, manual or automatic, and seating for up to nine. Modern amenities include leather, navigation, Bluetooth and premium sound. Price: $95,000 to $110,000.

They'll just dip them all in a giant vat of white paint, slap on some boosts and sell them to people with more money than brains.

Do they do the white paint dip before or after the dip in waxoyl?

How did I miss this. They are close to where I live according to google. It's hard to tell what the trucks look like though.

I think gear patrol is doing a video on them. They seem to get press.

I think we're at a tipping point or inflection point where we are going to start seeing supply outpace demand (for the end user anyway). And I imagine it will be the opposite situation on the other side of the pond.

Like is said in another post, I stopped counting how many new "Defender Specialists" have started businesses based solely on the 25-year exemption.

I hope things don't get so out of control that things end up getting worse at the border.

Based on what he intends to import according to the articles I think he has a very steep uphill battle. DOT has published opinion letters on the web indicating that they consider doing these mods prior to importation "re-manufacturing" and as such the truck will be held to current standards and not eligible for a 25yr exemption.
