Thinking of a Gwagon

Well looking into a Gwagon for my wife. Our 91 Landcruiser is closing in on 350k and is starting to show its age.

I need something she will be comfortable to drive and that can handle our crazy local roads in the winter. Also server as a 2nd car when my rover is laid up or her honda is getting an oil change.

Ive been looking at 230GE and 300GD SWB 2 door models with the five speed. Any experience with these units?

Ive never driven one and im contemplating traveling to the UK to look at a few

Let me know your opinions

BTW she is not interested in a 90 SW or van they are just too damn loud inside.

LHD or RHD does not matter...we have EZ pass and she grew up in Antigua.

they do both RHD and LHD drive there..on the right side of the road..it can get confusing

You can also get some pretty nice ones from here and Canada. They pop up on ExPo from time to time. What's the budget?

You can't say G-Wagon if you're going for the 80s ones, though. It needs to at least have leather for you to call it a G-Wagon.

Some examples of Expo ones for sale now or recently sold.

EDIT with a manual 5 or 4 speed is fine

The second truck in the first link I gave you is still for sale I think. It's a 230 GE 1988 unde $10k but it's in Ottowa, Canada.

I checked his activity and he's on there fairly frequently - 8/11 was the last time. If I can find his number I'll send it to you. The 230 in that listing looks sick, I agree.

Rust is the big issue. Peter B had a really nice one near me.

I am in Ottawa and could look at it for someone. I would bet on it being an imported truck that is not legal for import into the US (not 25 years old) and probably rusty.

Yeah, shouldn't be a deal breaker. I PM'd the guy over on ExPo in case you have any issues registering. Asked him his contact info and if the truck was even still available, as I didn't see his kijiji listing in Ottowa anymore (apparently had his number and contact info in the kijiji listing).

Does the US go by build date or just year of production? We go by month and year of production. So if it was a 1988, built in July 1987, you'd be good to go, if M/Y is used in the U.S..

Regardless I would expect it to be really rusty.

Has she ever been in one? More basic road cars than her current ride!
