buy stuff uninformed, install yourself without any knowledge, break it all as well as other stuff, try again yourself, break it all again, concede defeat and buy it again, have a shop install it, shop tells you "this crap doesn't go together correctly you DA!", buy correct stuff, have the shop install that, break it all...

I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.
