Texting, phone use and driving, your stories.

This is a random rant. There is a lot of talk of banning Cell use in cars. I am for some sort of regulation but I think the only way it will work is if all phones have a GPS chip in them and when the phone is moving it will disable....

In the past 9 years I have been in 6 accidents when other drivers where at fualt and and the phone. 1 of them put me in the hospital, the other 5 where minor.

1. Rear-ended by an Acura on 95 in Miami (guy on phone, watched it like a slow mo movie in my rearview).
2. Rear-ended by a Jag in Aventura (old lady on phone, she said "nobody stops at that stop sign"
3. Head on Colision in North Jersey (young lady on phone drifted), ended up with a torn muscle
4. Rear-ended by a BMW in NY (lady real estate agent who had customers in car...)
5. T-boned by a Mini-van in NY (guy ran stop sign).....
6. Side-swiped by a Honda when the lady was getting directions from her BF up the road and he said turn left, she did but did not see me in her blind spot on a 4 lane road (she was in the right lane)....

Does anybody else have stories like this?

Some dude ran his truck into the back of my grandmother's car about a month and a half ago going "about 40" according to the crash analysis. Dude was on his phone at the time...the collision pushed her through the intersection and into two other cars. They said if she wasnt in her S class with the way the car is meant to handle crashes, she would have probably perished. She was able to walk away, but they sent her to the hospital just in case. She has pains in her shoulder and arm, as well as her leg (from pushing on the brakes so hard she says when she was flying through the intersection) but she's fine with that given what could have happened.

lol Yeah I'm giulty of this, matter of fact, 2 months ago I killed a shopping cart on Vineland Blvd North hollywood while texting. As I looked up, too late, BAM!!! Right side of my D90 is in the air smoke and sparks everywhere. I thought the D90 was Fucked! Turns out, just a small gash in my skid plate, didn't even dent it, that was it! can't believe nothing else happened to the D90, the shopping cart was a total loss. It literally was dragged 15 feet and was smashed flat.

I work at a fire station in Van Nuys and have worked for the LAFD for over 23 years. Texting or using your phone while driving is IMO worse than drunk driving, at least a drunk is trying to drive well. I went on a call a month or so ago for a kid that was walking home from school, in the crosswalk and nailed by a guy on his phone who was texting. The kid ended up dying and all the driver could say was "I didnt even see the kid", well no shit you didnt see him. I cant tell you how man y traffic accidents we go on a week that are directly the result of texting or trying to do something on your phone. Pisses me off, especially after the fatality of that kid. Frigging dipsh!ts!!!!

I blame Barack Hussein Obama! If I wasn't so angry about his illigetimacy of his pesidency that nite, I would have never had to text my friend about which club we were headed too because I wouldn't have been depressed enough to even want to go clubbing.

I think we need better regulations on who gets a drivers license. Look at the Germans, they have very strict tests to pass for your license.

I was dating this girl a few years ago who was nothing short of a freak. She was a champion sexter, and on this particular night she wanted me at her apartment with a quickness. I lived about 20 miles away down the empty undeveloped stretch of 485 for the NC guys, and it was late at night on a weekday so there was no other traffic. I was hauling ass doing 90+mph the whole way in my new Tundra tow rig. The texts this girl was sending me were getting nastier the longer it took me to get there so at this point driving was secondary and I wasn't paying a damn bit of attention to the road, just texting her as fast as I could to keep her in a state of hornyness I'd never witnessed before... a goddamn UFO with aliens could have pulled up next to me and waved and I wouldn't have noticed..... The Land Rover thing "what road?" Yea I wasn't paying attention at all, which isn't the smartest thing to do at 95mph in a 7000lb truck.

The night gets kinda hazy at this point, and I don't remember all the details.... Needless to say I wrecked that shit....... BAD.

When I came to I was cut up, bleeding, bruised and couldnt feel my legs. I also wasn't sure where I was at first and didn't know where my phone had ended up so I could call someone.

As for my Tundra.....

It was right where I parked it the night before.

The Germans have had laws on the books that are heavily enforced since the mid 90s about use of cellphones while driving. Earphones and mic were law back then with no talking to the speakerphone or direct talking on the cell (cell up to ear). They were talking about this on the radio this afternoon. They were saying if you read the proposition(?) you will see that companies like ____star that comes in most cars will not be affected and some other exceptions for hardware from the 3rd party companies that produce the equipment for wireless communications. The way they were talking about it made it sound like the bill(?) would push all communication through the cars system and none through your cell phone/provider.

I have been rear ended hard twice since August in the disco. Fortunately its got an RTE heavy steel rear bumper on it. Both accidents were hard hits and both because of texting in traffic.

In the UK its illegal to either text to talk on a mobile phone whilst driving unless you have a hands free system. Its enforced by the Police, a £60 fine on the spot and 3 points on your licence, once you get over 9 points you loose your licence for a year and have to re take an extended driving test.

x2, (one of) the root(s) of the problems is in this country driving isn't a privilege but claimed to be a right.

Having an attitude of being irresponsible behind the wheel is what feeds the idea that not paying full attention is ok. Only horror stories that happen to these people are what will change their opinion and at that point its too late.

Another thing that bothers me is how little this is actually enforced. Everybody knows somebody that has gotten a ticket for it, but for each one of those I see 15 people on my drive (each way) using their phone while driving.

because it is a lame punishment

I say, if you text while driving, you should loose your license for 6 months if no accident arose from it, or 2 years if an accident and not injuries.

Our insurance rate are high due to this, the chick with make up, the low class drunk, etc

We should just make driving really really expensive and keep the poors on public transportation. That would solve the vast majority of the problems.

They tried that with cigarettes, yet that has done little curb it, and look at fuel prices in Europe, yet people still drive.

Is that "regular poor," or "Ron Poor?"

Soon, iPhones will block texts while driving - Jun. 5, 2017

It seems that Apple is finally making it an "Option" to disable texting while driving. Someday I hope once you get in a car your phone will only work to dial 911.
