I guess they need to build a bigger factory.

Tesla's weekly production capability was 3000 units / wk @ Q1 2015.

Where is the 20,000 units/year number from?

Americans want Made In America? I'm glad we're putting our money where our mouths are.

Their factory in CA used to be Toyota's and they produced 500K/year so they have the right factory - now actually building that many is another story but I'd bet they figure it out.

yeah, it's hard to tell what's real with the internet anymore. It's altogether possible that the true capability of tesla's production is less than what we read, but we won't know until they start making cars.

I hope they can deliver!! To me, Tesla's cars are exciting, but the real game changer is battery production. If batteries come down to less than $50/kWh, the whole range of what we can do as humans will change. I can think of a hundred and one uses for cheap Lithium Ion cells...

You should be pulling your information from the Internet, not some piece of paper.

ha!

i guess time will tell. esp with the batteries..... it like all technology.

like with the iphone and ipod, yes remember we used to just have ipods!! they were huge in size but only held 8MB now, you can get a phone: 1/2 as thin, 128GB, you can email, call and surf the web all on one devise.

so the batteries will get more power, smaller in size and cheaper too. eventually.

Maybe. maybe not. If they make too many there may be raw material supply shortage and they become more expensive.

Gigafactory for batteries, Ex Toyota plant (bought for pennies on the dollar) for the cars. They have been planning of this, but I think the pre-orders are way more than they expected so I am sure it will be slow. I don;t think they have delivered anything on time yet either.

Funny story - I have neighbor who bought a model S last year, and about a week ago I saw had an X in the driveway. My wife told me he won it for having the most sales at his work (or that's what I heard her say) but finally caught up with him today to chat. It turns out he won it for having the most model S referrals in NA - 96 of them. So he has a free founders edition X with the dual motor! Bloody hell, time for a test drive!

Oh yeah, he also got to go to the unveiling, and put in an order for a model 3 too. I guess I'll be seeing a model 3 sooner than I thought. lol

Yea for the referrals, typically it meant $1k for the referrer and $1k to the referee - in Virginia their state laws couldn't allow the referrer to keep the $1k so your buddy and others in VA used that to get a lot of referrals as the referee got $2k off instead of $1k. More than you all wanted to know probably but cool to know the lead referrer for NA - a free loaded X is a sweet prize.

Their factory is the old Toyota/GM Nummi facility that was used to build Corolla and Chevy Nova/Prizm cars and hatchbacks.
Confess I had one of the Chevy Nova's. Typical Toyota reliability.

Proving that even with the best teacher, GM couldn't learn.
