Tennessee members seen this boat?!

Hey guys,

So Im in the process of selling my boat and she is on a truck east right now. She is delayed by at least 10 days and Im worried. Last report was they were down in Knoxville for the last 6 days. Anybody seen this boat? Should be heading up 81 by now. It should be covered in white shrink wrap and the tractor and trailer are about 90ft long so it would be hard to miss. Any sightings would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you out... but you don't have a way to contact the driver? A 10 day delay seems very strange.

I got an email from the driver last night and he said he was in Knoxville sick for 6 days. He was supposed to have showed up in Maine day before thanksgiving and now is saying he wont be here till Thursday. He suddenly asked to be paid in advance of showing up when the deal was C.O.D so Im worried something has happened to the boat and he wants his money before I see it. The transport is actually being paid by the broker so this could get sticky if the boat was damaged on the way.

I'm on 81 through VA right now. Haven't seen it today, and was in TN earlier.

The Gf is driving now, but I had plenty of time earlier when I was stuck in a 5 mile backup (that eventually turned into 15+ miles) at exit 133 near Salem, VA. All they said was overturned trailer...pretty sure they would have mentioned 81' boat, if that were the case.

I frequented that road often as a owner/operater and I can tell you he is way over on total length and/or overweight.... allowed in any state unless you have the proper permits in advanced. Virginia is very strict on being overweight and there is a bridge law in every state... you can not exceed a certain length unless you have oversize/overwidth permits.
The vehicle must be indentified with front and rear oversized banner/flags.... I didn't see any in that picture.
He could be asking for more money to pay for the fines.... big $$$$$, at one of 2 weigh stations in VA.

Also, could be a major mechanical failure on the tractor or trailer..... that boat does look heavy!

x2 on heavy fines. The traffic supervisor wrote a $26,000 ticket to a truck a few weeks ago for crossing a bridge rated at a 3 ton limit. We do have laws on escort vehicles too, but i'm not sure exactly what they are. Did he have any with him? You could always try getting in touch with the weight station in Roanoke VA and see if they remember it coming through. I would think they would remember since it would have been over weight and length drawing their attention. Also you could try calling Lee Hi truck stop in Lexington VA or Whites truck stop in Raphine VA. They are both very popular fueling and sleeping spots in VA.

Just talked to him. He is still in TN. Sounds like VA was shut down to oversize loads from Wed until tomorrow and had to wait for permits. He does have an escort vehicle with him. That pic was taken when it was first loaded at the yard in LA so it wasnt shrink wrapped or flag etc. He still wants to get paid in advance but our deal is C.O.D so ill just be holding my breath till he gets here.

Ummm..... Owning a boatyard for many years and dealing with a lot of wooden boats over the years I REALLLLLLLLLY hope they supported the bow a LOT better before the trip. That is a long overhang and a lot of bow with zero support either from the keel or the bilge turns.

She looks a little "loose" on a few of the planks in the picture already..... I would inspect for damage BEFORE you pay, or check insurance coverages etc. Not trying to scare you, just beware.

Good luck though!

Doug

That pic was literally taken just after she was put on the trailer so the bow supports etc were not in place yet. Dont worry Im already scared....

John, I am a yacht broker in Knoxville. Where is the boat? I will head out there tomorrow and lay eyes on it, and report back.
