$50K for a truck with an epoxyed radiator? What other secrets are hiding outside of visually inspectable range?

No Derek, its not your fault. But the implication is all Rovers being POSs have no resale value, even if you tell the buyer the faults and he wants them repaired. Stand up guy is an easy phrase to through around. The truck was recommended by me to get repairs and do restoration work ... he blocked the entire sale contract at the point of sale because of his opinion on the price. Done and done.

Malcolm, actually I have never met nor exchanged words with Taylor once in my entire life.

I think the photos and your ebay description clearly do not match up with one another.

Your attempt to defraud a Defender buyer, which Taylor Congleton halted, is pathetic and despicable.

I too have no dog in this bullshit, but everyone needs to pump the brakes.

Mods should change this thread title so not to permanently have someone's name engrained forever beside "Avoid Him" without more evidence of some wrongdoing.

If this chap wants to sell his 110 with shady ass pictures on ebay, that's his deal and will likely not go over well in our community should the vehicle be in bad condition.

OP, clean up your truck, take some good pictures, and let those pics and inspection sell your vehicle. You have every right to sell it for whatever, the buyer should do his due diligence but you shouldn't do anything that could be perceived as misleading (not saying you did or didn't) if you want to stay on good terms with the mostly honest folks here.

Move on.

Low mileage doesn't mean shit when it's that kind of condition and "restoration." Sorry but that truck is a piece of shit. You'd have been better off keeping it original.

If anything, this thread is positive advertising for Taylor. That's a stand up move telling the buyer to back out of the deal, it's not even close to being as advertised, especially at that hilarious asking/buying price.... I mean if he were really as crooked as you say, the smart move on his part would have been to let the deal gone through and then ass-rape the buyer with the new "restoration" repair costs.

Real talk. That 110 needs a serious frame off un-fucking.

2x. I'm perplexed why the OP thinks Taylor needs to debate anything with him. Taylor only needs to talk to his client, period.

I too am perplexed at the OP's original comments but... I have seen this kind of shit all too often recently. About a month ago I stopped off at a (not to be named shop) here in Austin that was selling a truck not too dissimilar to the one referenced in this thread. Shotty paint job, half ass interior, rust, no galvy chassis etc and were asking $69k! and they are supposed to be professionals... I am amazed at the number of people that are trying to rip off buyers that are new to the defender market. It truly is a shame and is not representative of the defender community.

Let me get this right. You want $56,800.00 for that truck? No rust really? Are you sure you want to go with that story? What I think happened is you expected to make oh, say $35k in profit from a maybe $20k truck. Congleton acting as the buyers advocate took one look and said no way is this vehicle accurately represented as per your e-bay listing below. So from what I see, Mr. Congleton did the buyer the service he was hired to perform.

IF YOU REALLY DISPUTE THESE CLAIMS PLEASE POST DETAILED PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. LET'S LET THE VEHICLE DO THE TALKING. I am quite sure that your claims of the "racing fire extinguisher, pelican case first aid kit and dash compass" are true. Can you PROVE there is not serious rust on the vehicle?

Photos, photos, photos please.

Yes, if it was a pre inspection as it should have been this worked out fine. Every vehicle I've inspected ended with you should or shouldn't buy...I would feel guilty selling this for 50K.

Just saw these anonymously sent pictures Adam posted.
Must have been added while I was typing a post, but after I saw them...

My jaw dropped.
Confirmed that Taylor is the stand up guy who Mark and I rightly trusted to hang out with our daughters and Taylor was always a perfect gentlemen when he did.
Confirmed that this thread is a tribute to Taylor's desire to do the right thing.
Made me feel happy that the 110 is still for sale because the pictures provide evidence that the vehicle cannot be worth the asking price.

Malcolm, again these pictures speak for themselves in that they do not describe a vehicle worth over $50K.
I cannot see how anyone can honestly dispute this after seeing them.

Here is a something more in the $50K neighborhood for example and note the differences

More like Abu Butt hole right? WTF. Thanks for taking all those pictures chief. Really really smooth move keeping a blog on it too so everyone can see it for what it is. HUGE fuck up trying to sell it for an unreasonable amount.

Good job Taylor. There are two types of people in this business, those who would walk away from this basket case of a 110 and those who would have let the sale go through, and began bleeding the new owner of money.

To the OP,

Agreements to purchase vehicles through eBay are non-binding. I would encourage you to see the "Purchase Conditions" section in the link to the ebay user agreement located below. The pertinent part has been copied and italicized for your benefit:

"For motor vehicles and real estate, a bid or offer initiates a non-binding transaction representing a buyer's serious expression of interest in buying the seller's item and does not create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller."

eBay User Agreement

In layman's terms, per eBay policy, the buyer in question was never bound to the transaction. He was free to walk away at any time prior to the transfer of title.

I hope that this sheds some light on this matter.

I was just getting ready to add that I hope he wasn't holding his breath waiting for eBay to collect the balance of his sale price!

Thanks Will
With all the legalese being thrown around like shrapnel, I felt compelled to write something.
Thanks for clarifying for the OP and others always quick to play attorney.

Not trying to stir the pot, but Taylor Congleton in my experience has been a solid & reputable guy, and I've seen some of his work first hand back when he worked out of RN shop. He was wrapping up restoration on a marine blue 109, and it was on par with a Lanny Clark quality resto. Aside from his work professionally, my experience crossing paths with him personally at Rover events/etc he is an all around nice guy.

On the contrary, the eBay buyer protection would step in and take back any deposit if they saw the photos Adam posted.
