Suspicious Ebay question

So ive got my 109 on Ebay. Ive got a guy insisting he needs a scan of the title in order to get a quote to nationalize the vehicle? Something about the importer needing to see the engine number and frame number being on the title. Its got a GM motor in it. Does this sound legit to you? Im not inclined to give anyone a scan of the title. Am I just paranoid?

Yeah thats what I thought. No idea what nationalize means. Any idea how this scam works? Is he just trying to get all my personal information or is there some kind of other racket?

Actually .. not necessarily a SCAM

I've sold one of my cars on ebay ( 100k+ .. a freaking Level 4 vehicle ) and the buyer was sending it overseas, and to NATIONALIZE meant he needed to get an okay to bring the vehicle in and they need certain data, now US titles do not have all that info on it as the MSO does, and I called trhe Manufacturer and obtainned all the crazy info on the vehicle's package and engine, chassis, and level 4 details

You can scan a copy of the Title where shows the top ( info on Vehicle and not you )

it would have no risk

Just my experience

In light of Rugbier's post it seems I may be too paranoid. I could swear I've seen a discussion about this on one of the forums I frequent and recall it being a scam. I have been wrong before, though.

When I have sold motorcycles and cars I have scanned the title a couple off times. No worries. Its usually after a couple of emails or at a least a phone call that I qualify them.

If I wanted to scam someone I would just make up my own title, why bother asking someone else.

What's funny is that when Sergeant_V purchased his D90 5 years ago, the entire transaction was over email. No phone call. I actually thought it was scam. I was suppose to pick up a stranger from the airport without ever talking to him. Long story short, he turned out to be first class.

Serg, you getting soft on us?

Hey Andrew! No fair busting me out like that. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me. Are you still riding the classic bikes all over the country?

I always add a COPY ONLY watermark to scans of titles and similar documents. That way it can't be construed as an original.

Follow-up Post:

That must be the reason he needs the info to prove to wherever he is sending to, tha tit is indeed a 60yrs old vehicle and not a Kit Car / Newly Built/ etc
