Suggestions from you gadget people...

I was installing a new LaSalle headliner over the weekend. Sorry forgot to take pics of that but I'll take some later this week.

Anyway, the headliner comes with a pre-fabbed radio box right where the overhead light use to be (the light is moved forward a bit). This is directly above the rear view mirror. Now since I have a '97, my center console already has the radio. And I use a Cobra 75Wx something for a radio (integrated hand unit). So I'm left with the question of what to use that space for? I was thinking a full size, legit radio might be nice. But wanted to think creatively. And no, I don't want a drop down screen of any kind (with playstation)...

The headliner is really trick. It also has two speaker enclosures above the headrests in the front. The only thing that sucks is having to cut out the sections for the sunroof and the alpine windows.... Too bad I trashed the original liners getting them out.

Well, since the TV thing is out how about a fish tank? They put one in this girls car on this show on MTV.

That or you could use it as a holder for your rubber boots, that reminds me I need to get a pair of those, but I want the ones that go up to your waist.

What about some extra gauges, everyone is always looking for a place to put them, you could buy an overhead console for something like a pickup (you know the kind that holds CDs and sunglasses) and add the gauges to that.

Dave you make this hard as you already have all kinds of stuff and have them nicely packaged.

Thanks Mike. I was thinking guages too. I need to find a place to put the EGR and trans temp guages and other stuff....

I did see the episode with the fish tank. What happens when the fish die?

A cappachino machine would be nice. Maybe a tap of some kind. I could run the line to the back into the fridge....

How about a HAM Radio? A lot of clubs out here in the Pacific NW have begun using HAM.

More importantly, what happens when the fish grows in size, which they tend to do?...LOL

Dave, I don't have a creative suggestion for your new found radio compartment but for the overhead speaker cut outs, you can put a speaker for your WX-ST in those. Goodluck!

Yes, HAM would be interesting. From a back-country use perspective, it may be something that can be very useful especially for any emergency.

Glenn, the fish tank was tiny. I think they only put in two. It looked really ghetto. Almost as bad as the waterfall they put in another vehicle earlier in the season.

Lesse some pics of that headliner. I'm curious how it turned out.

Mike, it looks similar to this pic. But I'll take some after the install is done. Right now I have a bare ceiling.

The only difference in mine is that the speaker enclosures are farther back, almost directly overhead of the front passengers.

I forgot to mention. It comes in three pieces. Two for the rear section. It's some type of fiber glass board material. Not as fragile.

Hmmm, looks pretty good. Those round things in the corners are the speaker blanks right?

Did you get it here in the states, or did you have LaSalle ship it over?

I don't have a headliner in the CrewCab at all, but had the interior of the roof Rhinolined. I'm in the process of making aluminum panels where the speakers will go, but if I do it the way I've planned, I pretty much eliminate the possibility of a future headliner.

Problem is with my cab dimensions is nothing off the shelf will work.

I'd love to see it when it's installed.

Mike, this might be a good option for you because they are a fiber board, you could essentially trim them down from say a SW D90 cab fit, with somethinglike a dremel.

I bought it from David Gage at Thatched Roof. I think he gets them from either Equicar or Craddock.

Those round things are the blanking plugs for the 5 1/4 " speakers.

That's true, then I could just deal with the rear roof section on it's own (the curved part).

I wonder if I've put too much Rhinolining on the roof to be able to use the headliner.

Hmmmm....
