Street tires

All,

Looking at picking a setup of new tires for the rig. It is my daily driver so instead of the BFG turning and they are costly replacements. I was thinking of picking up a set of used rims with some tires.

Thoughts on brands? I can look up on tire rack / discount but some feedback from you folk would be good.

Thanks.

Yeah, I have BFG KO on her now. Was thinking a more street tire with smaller grooves for mileage and noise. I found a local guy with some 235/65/16 Firestone LEs mounted on disco wheels that should bolt on for $450. I think that might be a deal I can't pass on.

I run Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors on my wife's Grand Cherokee and had them on a couple of F150's. Love the ride and they handle great in all types of weather and wear well. I just put a set of Cooper Zeons on the LR3 and while they look pretty sweet, I am paying at least a 1mpg penalty over the Conti's I had on previously

As a side note, if you happen to belong to Blue Ribbon Coalition they offer a discount program with Goodyear and maybe another brand as well but it escapes me.

The factory standard General Grabber TR tire is an outstanding all-round tire, quiet on road, good in snow and rain, and incredibly hard wearing. I have put 80,000 km on mine, and just recently drove 6000 km on those same tires through some of the worst roads in east Africa. Not even a flat, not once, and they STILL have lots of tread on them. I have often thought of writing a letter to the company to say how amazed I am with those tires. Put them on new on the 110 in 2003 and they are the only set of tires I've ever had on the beast. Am-azing.

I was looking for an alternate set of tires awhile back and was strongly considering the General Grabber TRs...but I'm pretty sure they stopped making them. I think the replacement is the HTS or something so never pulled the trigger.

If anyone knows where to get the Grabber TRs let us know...

I use Kumho Road Venture SAT/AT, whichever is cheaper at the moment.
