StrangeRover.Com: Has anyone ever bought a defender from Strange Rover

I am in the market for a Defender 110 and am midway through the lengthy process of sourcing the actual truck. Needless to say, it is taking longer than expected.

I ran into this site (http://www.strangerover.com/) and have spoken with the owner quite a bit. He seems like a very trust worthy guy and a lot of his product seems to be relatively well done.

Does anyone have any experience with these guys?

Thank you.

Also, if you have a connection to a good 110, I am definitely still looking. My email is: jabelson@bridgeinvestors.com

Just bought a 110 from Earl at strangerover last month. I'd say he's pretty straight forward but do a good inspection of the doors (remove cards) and bulkhead before you buy. Their shop tends to cover up a lot with new paint and some funky interiors, but overall a good truck. You can PM me if you need more info.

From what I've seen all rust is covered in about an inch of black paint and all seats are recovered in faux snake skin. Not worth the markup he charges in my opinion.

Check the For Sale Vehicles section here - you're sure to find a better price and a few examples of 110s that haven't been done up for show.

"Thomas Cordaro" AKA - Earl is a scammer. I bought a Land Rover from him and a year or so I had to get rid of it. I asked if he could sell on consignment and he said I will just give you some money for it and when it sells I will give you the rest. I heard he sold it for 10k more than he gave me for it and now won't return any calls.
This is the caliber of person you do NOT want to do business with.

Stay away from Strang Rover and Earl! I have hear other stories about him too. Their are many more reputable Land Rover sellers out there.

i can't believe ANYONE would buy his trucks!! if you are that "new" (aka uniformed) about the Defenders PLEASE do yourself a huge favor and post up on here where you are and what you are looking for...someone on this board will help you out and let you know what you are getting yourself into!

In fact I would say to do just that regardless of who you buy it from, as you will get an opinion of someone other than the seller.

His trucks are garbage. I've seen several of them and they are covered up rust buckets with shitty ass paint. Maybe a painted engine and shiny paint is what he considers a rebuild but it still amazes me that he gets the amount of money he does for his crap. It just goes to show that people will pay anything when they don't know the product. Its just a shame that he's still in business. He's an eBay seller and that's the only place he'll ever get buyers since most don't have a clue what they're looking at.

Garbage.......stay away!

The best advice you're going to get is to buy a truck on THIS forum from a member. Otherwise, don't expect much.

Good luck!

Has anyone looked at the Strangerover website?
What a complete toolbag!! Anyone who would buy any vehicle from him deserves the headaches.

Is he allowed to mention individuals by name as examples of VIN swapping? I suppose that is a matter of public record, but it's in such poor taste to plug his business at somebody else's expense.

Just another greasy-haired snake oil salesman. I wouldn't buy oxygen from him if I were stranded on the moon.

PS- what's the over/under on him putting a set of curb-feelers and underbody lights on a Defenr or Series?

There is zero chance ZG is being anything BUT sarcastic, I think.

Pretty awesome indeed! I mean who wouldn't want the one-of-a-kind look of a 88 top on a 109. Why didn't Land Rover ever think of that? I mean you could fit two Whole Foods grocery bags in the back section and your 3 hipster buddies stay warm and dry under the canvass. ......and the chrome accents on the wheels! What a timeless classic

LOL hipsters love these 109s, only $20K to say 'look at me' while telling all your friends 'I hate when strangers come up and talk to me about my obnoxious series truck'
